ELECTRIC CARS SHOW UP TO 72.7% DEPRECIATION OVER 3 YEARS
A chart showing the top 20 fastest depreciating cars over a 3 year period was released yesterday.
The majority of them were electric, with the Lexus UX 300-e top (or bottom) of the pile with 3 -year depreciation running at a colossal 72.7% - over £12,000 per year in value.
The list doesn't include the influx of Chinese electric cars, as they have not been around for long enough to qualify for the survey.
So, there should be some second-hand bargains out there, particularly amongst the electric models. The problem is that buyers are concerned about longer term reliability, the usual charging issues and the development of new technology that will force the value of their e-cars down even further.
The alternative of course is to buy a dependable used petrol or diesel car that has many years of useful life remaining and that won't depreciate that much.

CITROEN C-CROSSER 2.2 HDI EXCLUSIVE 4WD 7-SEATER
I had a test drive in one of these when they first came out and it was impressive - a well designed 4x4 SUV, and the 2.2 HDI engine was powerful and economical. This is an older example with quite a few miles on the clock (probably a little below average) and it would make an excellent winter car with 7 seats, albeit small ones at the rear. Very good value at £1995

It's quite a wet and windy day just now in Cumbria, but I found a short video of mine of an even wetter day in 2015 at the end of Haweswater - if anyone can guess the date on which this was taken you can have a gold star!
