🚗 DRIVING TEST BOOKINGS — PLEASE BE CAREFUL! 🚗
If you’re looking for a practical driving test, you may come across companies, websites or apps offering to find and book a test for you.
⚠️ The rules have now changed.
Since 12 May 2026, only the learner driver themselves can book, change, cancel or manage a car (Category B) practical driving test. This means third-party booking companies, cancellation-finder services and even driving instructors cannot book or manage a test on your behalf. It is now against the law for someone else to book a car driving test for you.
❌ Be very careful with “test finder” services
You may see companies offering to:
• Find an earlier test for you
• Automatically search for cancellations
• Book a test on your behalf
• Charge you extra for a supposedly “fast-track” appointment
Do not give these services your DVSA login details, driving licence details, booking reference or other personal information so they can access and manage your test.
DVSA has previously warned that unofficial cancellation-finder services can create privacy risks. In its review of several such services, DVSA found that none had a privacy notice that complied with data protection law.
Giving a company access to your personal information can also mean you lose control over important communications about your test. DVSA has warned that using unofficial services can result in you not receiving important emails about your appointment, including changes to your test.
🚨 There can also be consequences
The DVSA can take action where its booking terms are breached. Depending on the circumstances, this can include contacting the learner for more information or issuing a warning. The DVSA has also been taking action against accounts and services that breach the booking rules.
The whole purpose of the new system is to stop tests being snapped up by bots, cancellation finders and resellers and then sold back to learners at inflated prices.
📅 When did the rules change?
There have been several changes:
➡️ 6 January 2025 – DVSA introduced new terms and conditions for instructors and trainers using its business booking service.
➡️ 8 April 2025 – the notice period for changing or cancelling a test was changed to 10 full working days.
➡️ 31 March 2026 – learners became limited to 2 changes to their car driving test.
➡️ 12 May 2026 – the major change came into force: only the learner can book and manage their own car practical driving test.
So if someone tells you, “Don't worry, I can book it for you”, think twice.
✅ Book through the official GOV.UK driving test service.
✅ Keep control of your own driving licence and booking information.
✅ Never hand over your DVSA login details.
✅ Be extremely cautious about anyone promising a guaranteed earlier test for an additional fee.
