Some information for those thinking of buying or selling a car: (PLEASE SHARE)
If you were selling your phone, laptop or any tech you would delete all of your contacts, photos, apps, etc.
Right?
So why would you not from your car…
An alarmingly high number of people forget to delete sensitive/personal details from their cars. Pairing your phone to your car is easy. It downloads contacts and messages, you can also give the car permission to use your phones internet connection.
If you have synced a phone to a car using Bluetooth or USB, information such as messages, addresses, wi-fi details and more could be transferred to the car and seen by the next owner. This can be wiped and the unit/system put back to the factory settings by following the instructions in the car's manual.
This also applies when you buy a vehicle. You should check there is no data in the system. It’s been possible for former owners to track the car's location, unlock the doors or even start the engine by using an app. SCARY!!!
What You Need To Do:
You need to go into your cars infotainment system, look for settings and erase all accounts and data. Check the manual if you can’t find it easily or call the manufacturer's customer services.
You need to break the link between the phone and car. This is done in the cars infotainment system NOT your phone
NOTE: if this information is not removed from the unit, it stays in the system even if the set is removed from the car (like any computer).
