Certainly was windy last night, trees down, gate blown open. These weren't the only issues...

What else could we find?

Quick message for those who think using a steering lock alone will be sufficient. Time how long this took then work out how long it'll take to repair once (if) you get the bike back. Photo of lock damage in comments. Here's my YouTube security video to help you.

Hey everyone. Had just washed a bike (MT07) and went in to book someone in for training. A passer by videoed someone nicking it. Fortunately, all of our bikes have trackers fitted and we recovered it within half an hour. Because it was a live crime, the police also turned up to find it was just left there, maybe the little angels were checking to see if it's tracked by waiting. Steering lock wasn't on but remember my security video, they can be kicked off in seconds anyway so no damage here. Trackers are readily available on ebay and a £5 giffgaff sim card will give you peace of mind. Nothing's guaranteed but on this occasion, it ended well. Tracker result screenshot in first comment as can't mix video and photo.

Looks like the Gov are looking for opinions on changing parts of the main test and CBT. The one where doing a CBT on auto restricting the rider to autos without further training for a manual has already been spoken about but not implemented last time, but needs sorting as I've heard about schools using this loophole to get people through CBT who have told the school they already have a geared bike but can't ride. How irresponsible?

Other things Roadcraft would like to see are;
Making any new rider OR driver have to do a theory test BEFORE even applying for a provisional licence... Not doing this is like buying a game without the rules! You'll be amazed how many young riders who live on their tablets pull out on cars and ride on the wrong side of the road nowadays!

Making sure learner riders doing deliveries have to do a special course, but nothing has been mentioned.

Allowing a licence upgrade option of the rider having a choice of further training at the school with us able to sign them off OR take the old test, good idea.

Full consultation details are here or some screenshots. Let us know what you'd like to see..

Damp ride yesterday, took a "short cut" and came across this ford. There's a depth marker showing it was about a foot deep and to turn around would have added time to the journey. I improvised (pleased I was on an auto, able to hold the rail and didn't have panniers fitted)

If I'd decided to go through the water, apart from my electric bike shorting out 😉 😜, what other hazards would I have had to be aware of?

This may be a sensitive topic but this cartoon has made me post...

In the 41 years I've been an instructor, I've seen a slow decline of "common sense" and communications involving young trainees. I've never in my career seen so many young people not reach an acceptable CBT training standard as I have in the past 2 years alone. My theory, apart from fixating on their tablets and phones in the car and not being aware of the surroundings, is that parents are doing everything for them now. Even recently, I asked an 18 year old what size shoes he wore for our boots, he looked at his feet, then me and shrugged! His dad then said "I think he's a 9"

Any theories from you as to why they look at their parents when I ask them a question, pull out of a side road into oncoming traffic or don't even look to the right before entering roundabouts despite cars heading towards them and this being talked about during the course?

A little update regarding Honda discounts for our trainees....

James at Sutton Motorcycles in Tamworth reached out to Honda UK and they've agreed to honour the £300, £600 and £900 discounts on new Honda purchases for our trainees, depending on cc size. Ok, Roadcraft is no longer sponsored with new bikes but at least our customers can still get their discounts. Thanks James 👍

I'm sad to announce that Vertu Honda motorcycles in Nottingham are now closed for good. They still have their original branch in Grantham. That also means that Roadcraft Nottingham is no longer part of Honda school of motorcycling scheme and our trainees can no longer get a discount on new Honda bikes. I contacted Honda UK to see if we could at least keep the discounts going to help sales with Honda and discounts for our trainees and their response was "ask your local Honda dealer" but we no longer have one, that's the point! 😂

Unfortunately, this means that Honda UK may lose a lot of business and the trainees no longer have an incentive to buy Hondas apart from the excellent quality, of course.

I have ended up purchasing the 2 latest 2025 model Hornet 750s and a Hornet 500 so you still have brand new bikes to train on.
