Saloons - 13th May 2026

The race as usual started at a furious pace, with everyone regularly swapping places, there were many de-slots and some questionable marshalling. This which eventually resulted in Ashley, who had a steady race avoiding major delays, having a deserved victory. The race eventually finished in the above order; Keith had the fastest lap in this final with a 6.189.

Well done to Ashley and Keith for excellent drives, it’s good to see new blood at the top! Luke had an inspired run in his finals. It was just too crazy and violent at times, perhaps we should ban the viewing of the BTCC races before this racing in this class!

Next week will feature the Goodwood Class, as I have said before, featuring some very pleasantly styled cars and a lot of NSR Porsche 908/3’s!Logo Crew

10/05/2026

There were 14 drivers talking part in the third round of this potentially varied class of cars, where speed and power rule ok! There is something visceral in driving a very fast car flat out, there were only a few accidents and most of the drivers behaved themselves, but Mike’s car seemed a little tail happy! There was some very close and exciting racing taking place. Ken brought his new NSR Hypercar, although it was not fully sorted it was used it to good effect, perhaps it may replace the Mosler one day?

This is the first race in this class that I have been able to take part in this season. I decided to use my gold NSR Mosler for the races. It is equipped with insane BRM EVO 25k long can motor, which is not to everyone’s taste, but I have no issues with it and the car is very fast! Overall, it was a productive night’s racing, and I finally broke the 6 second lap barrier for the first time!

The heats featured some close racing taking place, Heat 4 featured Ian R and Ken, so Dave had little hope for a win, but they both had new cars with some bugs and they obligingly crashed, giving him a pleasing victory! In heat 9, Fozz and Lyle were battling for second place, behind a very fast Ashley. On the last lap, in a death or glory effort to catch Lyle, Fozz crashed on the start / finish line! At the end of the heats: Herbie had 4 wins, Ashley had 3 wins, Lyle and Fozz had 2 wins each, Dave, Ken and Ian R had one win each. This was a surprising result for Ian who was doing battle with his new Scaleauto Aston Martin, but he soon responded to the challenge! The fastest lap in the heats was a 5.523 in the blue lane, Ashley had the next fastest lap time with a 5.738 in the green lane, Lyle, Ken and Ian R also had sub 6 second lap times.

The E final was won by Dennis, but Kyran had the fastest lap in this final with a 6.780 in the blue lane. The D final was won by Iain, who was using a car loaned by Herbie, because his car developed a fault. He also recorded the fastest lap time by with a 6.496 in the green lane. The C final was won by Ian R (a C final is certainly not a common event for him) from Peter, Ian R recorded the fastest lap time with a 5.942 in the green lane. The B final was also won by Ian R, but Dave lead initially, until he had a de-slot allowing Ian R to take the lead. Dave and Fozz had a close race (despite Fozz being in fourth place at the time), both drivers pushing each other to faster lap times, eventually both drivers broke the 6 second lap time for the first time, Fozz with a 5.988 and Dave a 5.990. The fastest lap in this final was by Ian R with 5.870 In the yellow lane.

The A Final featured:

Lyle in the red lane with his silver NSR Mosler

Ian R in the yellow lane with his white Scaleauto Aston Marti

Ashley was in the blue lane with his white and gold NSR McLaren 720s

Herbie in the green lane with his red NSR Mosler

The race set off at a furious pace, with Herbie initially in the lead closely followed by the others, eventually Herbie had a de-slot which cost him a considerable amount of time and it allowed the other three to overtake him. The race finally finished in the above order. The fastest lap in this final and on the evening was by Herbie with an astounding 5.474, Lyle had the next fastest time with a 5.721.

The next race is for Class 5, which is the Saloon Car class, this usually generates some interesting racing, usually dominated by the Spirit derived Peugeots!

GT3 meeting - 29th April 2026
There were 15 drivers talking part in the third round of this popular class, where speed, power and handling are theoretically finely balanced. Sorry for the lateness of this report, but I have been very busy over the last two days.

I again decided to use my green NSR Corvette C8R for the races, I am trying some new tyres on it after the original ‘happy tyres’ started to fall apart, the new tyres are still not quite there, leading to some occasional unpredictable handling. I lacked some focus on the night and lost two possible second places consequently in the heats, this coupled with some very challenging algorithms mean that it was not an entirely happy night in terms of results.

The heats featured some close racing taking place, Ashley was again very fast with his ex-Tone / Andy Taylor NSR McLaren 720, until it broke its rear body post, Dave loaned him another body and it broke in the same place! Eventually, Dave loaned him his spare NSR Corvette C8R, so that he could continue racing. Herbie again could not get his GT3 cars working to his satisfaction and struggled (by his standards) in the heats. Fozz drove well and was very successful in the heats. By the end of the heats, Ian R and Fozz had 3 wins each, Lyle, Ashley and Mike each had 2 wins, Keith, Pete and Herbie had 1 win each. The fastest lap in the heats was by Ian R with a 5.862 in the blue lane, closely followed by Ashley, with a 5.872 also in the blue lane.

The E final was won by Luke, who also had the fastest lap in this final with a 6.473 in the red lane. The D final was won by a more focused Dave from Kyran, with the fastest lap time by Dave with a 6.539 in the green lane. The C final was won by Herbie (a C final is not a common event for him) from Peter, a very motivated Herbie recorded the fastest lap time with a 5.847 in the blue lane. The B final was also won by Herbie, followed by a very determined Ashley, unfortunately he had too many de-slots in trying to catch Herbie. The fastest lap in this final was by Ashley with 5.848 (and scaring my Corvette to death in the process) in the blue lane. Herbie recorded 5.946 in the yellow lane.

The A Final featured:

Car Race car Automotive Exterior Race track Sports car racing

Ian R in the green lane with his white Aston Martin

Lyle in the blue lane with his red NSR McLaren 720s

Herbie in the yellow lane with his Gulf liveried Black Arrow Lamborghini

Fozz in the red lane with his grey NSR AMG Mercedes

The race set off at a furious pace, with Herbie in the lead closely followed by the others, eventually Herbie had a de-slot and it allowed Ian R and Lyle to overtake him. The race finally finished in the above order. The fastest lap in this final and on the evening was by Herbie with a 5.845, Ian R was close behind with a 5.902

The next race is for Class 4, which is the Sports / GT class open to sports cars of any type. These usually are amongst the fastest cars that we race, as they are an unlimited class

27/03/2026

There were 15 drivers present for this popular class, sadly there is still no BTCC racing on TV to give us inspiration in bad driving manners. But the inspiration was still there and as a result were some spectacular multi-car crashes.

My controller decided to misbehave when practising on Tuesday, Mike very kindly loaned me one of his spares until it has been repaired. Unfortunately, it took me a little while to adapt for it and it only seemed to work well with one of my cars on the night. Under the circumstances, getting a reasonable result in the C final was acceptable.

There were 15 heats, many of them were quite close. Herbie just pipped Fozz on the last lap to first place in heat 3. Ashley again seemed to be constantly re-building his cars. Pete’s car at the start of the heats had issues, but after some expert guidance and using Herbies fancy controller spread up considerably, much to my later inconvenience! Keith’s Peugeot was an absolute rocket ship and was nearly uncatchable. Ian R was not at his best, but he was still very fast. At the end of the heats, Keith won 4 heats, Herbie won 3 heats, 2 heat wins were obtained by Ian R, Mike, Fozz and Ken. The fastest lap in the heats was by Herbie with a 5.907 in the blue lane, this was the fastest lap time on the evening.

The E final was won by Pete with a 6.123 in the blue lane, the D final was also won by Pete, whose car had found some extra speed during the evening. The C final was also won by Pete recording a 6.385 in the yellow lane, I did my best, but he was too fast for me! The B final was eventually won by Ian R with a fastest lap time of 6.198, Pete had finally run out of steam and came fourth with 6.369 in the yellow lane. It was just as well that Pete did not win this final, because as he was using Herbie’s controller, two drivers into one controller does not work!

The A final was an all-Peugeot affair, now that is a surprise!

Keith was in the blue lane with his white Peugeot

Fozz was in the red lane with his silver Peugeot

Herbie was in the yellow lane with his silver and blue checked Peugeot

Ian R was in the red lane, with his black Peugeot

The race as usual started at a furious pace, with Ian R and Keith regularly swapping places, until Ian R had several de-slots which eventually resulted in him finishing in fourth place. Fozz drove steadily to a well-deserved second place. The race eventually finished in the above order, Keith had the fastest lap in this final with a 5.908.

Well done to Keith and Fozz for excellent drives, it’s good to see new blood at the top! But we must now start to occasionally arrange a suitable road block between Lowestoft and Norwich, to give the rest of us a chance of being successful…….

Next week will feature the Goodwood Class, featuring some very pleasantly styled cars and a lot of NSR Porsche 908/3’s!

Gt 3 - 11th March 2026

There were 16 drivers talking part in the second round of this popular class, where speed, power and handling are theoretically finely balanced.

I decided to use my green NSR Corvette C8R for most of the races, I am trying some new tyres on it, but it was suffering from too much grip at times, leading to some unpredictable handling. It was running at 0.4 sec slower than its best lap times last year, so more work is needed for the next round! I also used an ex-Tone Black Arrow Lamborghini, as it seemed to work better in the yellow lane. So, a lack of pace and some challenging algorithms mean that it was not a happy night in terms of results.

The heats featured some close racing taking place, heat 6 featured a spectacular multi-car crash and an extremely close finish with Herbie just pipping Pete on the start/finish line. Heat 10 had a fast-charging Lyle was hunting down Fozz and given another 2 laps he would have caught him up. Heat 14 featured a close battle between Pete and Dave for second place with Ashey disappearing into the distance. On the next to last lap, Dave’s excess of grip caught him out on the start of the podium straight and by the time that he was back in the slot Lyle had stolen third place, grrr! Ashley was very fast with his ex-Tone / Andy Taylor NSR McLaren 720, Herbie could not get any of his 13 GT3 cars working to his satisfaction and struggled (by his standards) in the heats. By the end of the heats, Ian R with 4 wins, Ashley with 3 wins, Ken, Fozz and Herbie had 2 wins each, Lyle and Mike had 1 win each. The fastest lap in the heats was by Ashley, with a 5.866 in the red lane.

The E final was won by Alf, but Luke had the fastest lap in this final with a 6.689 in the blue lane. An eventful D final was eventually won by Dave from Gordon, this was full of de-slots, with Dave’s car nearly snatching defeat from the jaws of victory on the last lap, with the fastest lap time by Dave with a 6.517 in the green lane. The C final was won by Lyle from Richard, Lyle recorded the fastest lap time with a 6.137 in the blue lane. The B final feature an unusual sight, Herbie and after some mechanical issues he came fourth! Pete and Lyle had a good race, with Pete coming out on top. The fastest lap in this final was by Fozz with an inspired 6.064 in the red lane.

The A Final featured:

Ashley in the blue lane with his white NSR McLaren 720s

Ian R in the red lane with his black Scaleauto Corvette

Ken in the green lane with his orange NSR Corvette C8R

Pete in the yellow lane with his yellow NSR AMG Mercedes

The race set off at a furious pace, with Ashley in the lead closely followed by the others, Ashley drove impeccably and didn’t have a single de-slot, as the others tried to keep up with him. A hard charging Ian R could not quite catch Ashley this time, so the race finished in the above order. Ashley is showing evidence of great speed and when coupled with a good car and a focused concentration he can compete with the best, this is his second consecutive win in this class! The fastest lap in this final and on the evening was by Ashley with a 5.842, Ian R was close behind with a 5.873 and Ken had a 5.997.

The next race is for Class 5, which is the Sports / GT class open to sports cars of any type. These usually are amongst the fastest cars that we race, as they are an unlimited class. I again will not be there next week, due to photographic commitments so Mike get your pencil sharpened!v

America Cup - 25th February 2026

Apologies for the late posting of this report, but I have been very busy in the last couple of days. On Wednesday evening we had the second round of our America Cup (I think of big posh yachts when we use this title) cars, which used to be named American Muscle. These cars are usually ‘scratch built’ using commercial bodies, but Thunderslot Mustangs are allowed with minor modifications. We had 15 drivers taking part in the meeting.

My intent was to use my white and blue Carrera bodied Mustang GTY with a WSR ‘U’ chassis, the chassis of which was kindly fabricated for me by Ian R. This was it’s first outing and it is still not fully sorted, but it ran well, nearly making the A final! Herbie had built one last year and its pace and handling was very impressive, if you can’t beat them then join them. The bodyshell is heavy but it allows a track width of 66mm!

The heats featured some very close racing as usual, Pete just beat me by a car length in heat 5 and I did the pretty much the same to Richard in heat 12. Unlike last week’s F1 race, there was very little terminal damage done to the cars during the proceedings, but we still had crashes, but these cars a much tougher! At the end of the heats: Herbie won all 4 of his heats, despite his Mustang GTY being sidelined with motor issues, Ian R won 3 of his heats, Dave and Pete each won 2 heats, Richard, Ken, Fozz and Lyle each won 1 heat. The fastest lap was by Herbie with a 6.442 in the blue lane. Pete qualified for the A final by having a fastest lap time 0.007seconds faster than me, the racing can be that close! Ian R used his American police car at least twice in the heats, complete with flashing blue lights!

The E final was won by Alf with a fastest lap time of 7.580 in the red lane, Mike won the D final with the fastest lap time of 7.302 in the green lane, but Gordon was close with 7.322. Fozz won the C final with fastest lap time of 6.766 in the red lane, Luke was an impressive second with a lap time of 7.010 although Lyle was faster with a 6.917. The B final had the potential for a great race featuring Richard, Ken Fozz and Dave. Dave took an early lead until a silly de-slot allowed Richard to pass, Richard kept his lead until the end of the race, despite Dave’s best efforts. Dave had the fastest lap time of 6.772 in the green lane.

The A final featured:

Ian R with his blue and white Camero in the green lane.

Herbie with his silver and black Thunderslot Mustang in the blue lane

Pete with his blue and white Thunderslot Mustang (called Wendy, after his wife who bought him the car) in the red lane

Richard with his red and blue Camero in the yellow lane

Model car Toy Play Vehicle Scale model Performance car

As usual, Ian R and Herbie charged off in a close battle, Pete and Richard chased them, but after a few de-slots they fell behind. Ian R ‘s car seemed to handle a little better than Herbie’s car and this made the difference. The final finished in the above order, Ian R had the fastest lap time of 6.429, which was the fastest lap time of the night, with Herbie close behind with a 6.484..Congratulations to Pete for an impressive nights racing!

So ended an entertaining evenings racing, perhaps I can do the mustang more justice next time!

The next meeting will feature the Group C Slot.it cars, this usually involves some very close racing as the cars are very similar in performance.

Classic Saloons & VW Beetles - 19th February 2026

On Thursday night, we had a double portion of classic saloon car racing, first we had the VW Beetle Challenge and then we had the normal saloon car race. We had 11 club members and a visitor in the form of Terry taking part. As an experiment, Ian R added another ‘person’ to the 12 drivers, to create the ‘perfect’ algorithms which needs 13 drivers to be taking part in the event. As Ashley was originally scheduled to be with us, but he could not make it he became the ‘virtual’ driver!

The Beetle race featured 9 drivers, with cars of many shapes and colours. Alf had his suspiciously wide Group 5 Carrera Beetle, Dennis his new green DDM produced Beetle. Herbie drove my copy of Herbie and Mike my orange one. They looked all looked very splendid; but when they are moving it is the improbable attempting the impossible!

There were 3 heats, each featuring 3 cars, the winner of each heat and the fastest runner up participated in the final. The final consisted of Alf, Mike, Ken and Herbie as the fastest runner up. The challenge of keeping these cars upright and moving at a significant speed is to me, the ultimate challenge of the art of driving. Mike took out Herbie twice and Herbie had his revenge once, in addition to mostly running on two wheels! Unfortunately, Ken’s car ended up in the wrong lane and the rescue attempt damaged the body posts, so it had to be retired. Alf’s wide car ran imperiously and won easily. Although I did not make the final, at least two of my cars did coming second and third, more of this fun later in the year

Before the main race now took place, there was a concours competition, which ended up in a two-way tie between Terry and Herbie on 12 points, Dave came third with 8 points.

There were 13 heats, some of these only having 3 real drivers because of the need for a ‘virtual’ driver. It was nice to seem Martin back with us this evening. There was a wonderful range of classic saloons taking place, from Alfa GTA’s, BMW 2002’s Mini’s, A40’s Imps VW Beetles to Ford Zodiacs. Ian R’s black and gold Mini was insanely fast, but some of the Alfa GTA’s were close to him. Ian R won 3 heats, Dave, Richard and Martin won 2 heats each, Herbie, Alf, Terry and Ken won I heat each. Herbie’s very fast Alfa had a couple of handling issues, due to him changing wheels and tyres, something that would suit Dave later. Mike also had tyre issues, his Alfa becoming a very convincing drift car! Ian R had the fastest lap in the heats with a 6.902, closely followed by Herbie with a 6.967.

The D final was won by Mike, who had decided to use his orange Imp, he had the fastest lap time of 7.734. Mike also won the C final, beating Ken who had the fastest lap time of 7.461, Mike recording a close 7.481. The B final was a close race, but Herbie with his challenging Alfa eventually won recording a fastest lap of 7.076.

The A final featured:

Ian R in the red lane. With his black and gold Mini
Dave in the blue lane with his gold Alfa GTA

Richard in the green lane with his orange and white Imp

Herbie in the yellow lane with his dark red Alfa GT.

It was a refreshing change from the Peugeot fest that the normal Saloon class A final has become!

Ian R raced off into the lead with Dave doing his best to keep up with him, Herbie’s Alfa was becoming very difficult to drive by now, with frequent de-slots. Richard’s Imp ran steadily in third place. So, eventually the race finished in the above order. If Herbie’s car had behaved itself the race may have finished quite differently! Ian R had the fastest lap in the final with a 7.004.

So ended another wonderful night of classic car racing, thanks to Alf for organising the event, it was good to see it so well supported. Thanks also to Iain for providing the food. If you have not taken part in a classics event yet, come along there are always some spare cars to use. The next classics event is for F1 on the 9th of April moving at a significant speed is to me, the ultimate challenge of the art of driving.
