Do you own a Peugeot or Citroen with the 1.0 litre or 1.2 litre puretech petrol engine?. If the answer is yes then please pay attention to the following.

These engines have what is known as a wet belt which is a timing belt which is located inside the engine and is lubricated by the engine oil. These wet belts can have potential problems which can lead to failure and engine damage.

We have had a number of vehicles with this engine brought to us with timing belts swollen and cracked and even breaking up. When the belts break up the rubber particles which come off them can then block the oil pump strainer which then reduces the amount of oil getting to the pump which in turn gives the engine low oil pressure. Major damage can occur to a engine if it is driven with low oil pressure.

Some of the main reasons these belts deteriorate like this are
1 lack of servicing
2 incorrect engine oil
3 low oil level

There is a special tool we use to check the belt when we carry out a service, this tool can show if the belt is swollen and we can visually check the belt to see if it’s cracked and deteriorated.

The replacement interval for some of these belts has been changed to 6years.

We are very happy to sponsor

After their old ones got vandalised and damaged by gales.
We had these fabricated and galvanised so that they will last for many years, they are made to lock together when not in use to help stop them from being vandalised.
