The job we did to receive the wonderful message received in yesterday's post. Bit of a long winded one. This customer brought his 2021 Citroen Berlingo to us before Christmas with an AdBlue fault. We ran a diagnostic check on the vehicle and found faults for AdBlue pump failure and deNoX efficiency. Knowing that AdBlue pumps are a common failure on Peugeot/Citroen vehicles we installed a brand new tank with pump and reset all AdBlue learned values. Customer took the van and all was well for just over a week.
Unfortunately, the customer then messaged before the new year to say the AdBlue warning light was on again and 450 miles to no start.
He returned the vehicle to us when we reopened after the Christmas break for us to carry out further diagnostics. The deNoX efficiency code had returned. We pulled the AdBlue injector from SCR catalyst and found carbon deposits building up around the nozzle, not a good sign. We removed the catalyst, SCR cat and DPF unit from the vehicle and sent to a local specialist for testing. They found the DPF had cracked and was allowing exhaust gases to travel back up to the SCR cat where it was then confusing the deNoX system. The specialist was able to open up the unit and replace the DPF core with an uprated core which we now know are a common failure. Sadly for this customer it didn't stop there. While we were removing the DPF unit we noticed he had other issues which would cause more issues fairly imminently. The turbo had excessive amounts of oil seeping past the impeller and collecting in the boost pipes, new turbo required. The cam cover was warped and leaking oil, new cam cover required. New AdBlue injector required as the original had carbon deposits around the nozzle. Engine oil and filter change as the oil was contaminated from failed DPF regenerations with fuel, also, an oil change is required when replacing a turbo. A lot of work and a hefty bill for this customer, but, a lot of grief saved in the long run. Pictures attached of the failed DPF core.
If you have DPF issues or AdBlue issues, don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

Always nice to get messages like this, even better when it's on a Monday!
This gentleman had a fairly hefty bill for the works we had to carry out on his vehicle, which makes reading this message even better for us as we know we've done our job correctly where others hadn't.
There will be a more in depth post on the works we had to carry out on this vehicle soon.

Well, another year has come to a close. We would like to thank all our customer's for their support this year, especially through the toughest times more recently.
A quick update on the power issues, electricians came out last Wednesday, found and fixed the issue. Let's hope that's the end of the power outages!
We will be closed from Tuesday 23rd December until Monday 5th January for some much needed rest.
We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
Look forward to seeing you all in 2026

An update on the electric situation.

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone for your support in sharing and reacting to my initial post, I'm blown away by the response, I didn't expect it to get this far, so thank you all.

Currently, power is still on, but no official word from anyone yet apart from the local MP, Alice Macdonald (ironically). I have tagged McDonald's in my original post, I have contacted the local press (Eastern Daily Press), someone managed to source the franchise owner's details for me whom I've emailed. For those suggesting Kevin Foley, it's not him, already made a fool out of myself there!

I will keep you up to date with any news and thank you all once more for hopefully sending this viral

Have a little read of this, hopefully, someone with a conscience will respond

I'd like to thank everyone for your support and for helping yesterday's post gain a lot of attention. It would take me forever to thank you all individually and to respond to all the comments.
For those who have come up with suggestions, I shall address these now.

I contacted the EDP on Friday, awaiting a response. I contacted the Foley group who owns the franchise to the restaurant, awaiting response. I will be contacting the local MP next, I still have the number of the project manager for the site, he'll be getting an earful today. I may well contact my landlord again. There were a few other suggestions which, sadly, I cannot remember now, but, I will try every Avenue that hasn't been explored yet to get to a resolution.

In the mean time, we'll try and fix some vehicles!

I know I shouldn't really be posting this on Facebook, but, I feel, as an incredibly stressed out business owner trying to earn an honest living and getting through the copious amounts of work we have when everything is going right, when things go wrong or a certain fast food chain moves in next door and causes you more problems then I feel now is the time to let social media do its thing.

As many of you will be aware, the former Richard Nash car sales site on Mousehold Lane has recently turned into a McDonald's restaurant. From what I can gather, nobody wanted it. It went to appeal at the council 3 times before it finally got approved. Someone obviously took a nice little pay out for that. The residents were told it wouldn't be 24 hours, suddenly, out of nowhere, 24 hour approval was given. Another nice little pay out for someone one can assume!

On a personal level, I don't rate McDonald's, think it's cheap junk for the masses and massively overhyped. But, I don't actually really care too much about it being there.
My problem with them stems from the restaurant being built. Again, many of you will be aware we suffered a power outage in the summer that affected my business for almost 2 full days. We made £30 on the first day and somehow muddled through on the second to get as much work done as possible to keep customers happy and make sure we could actually make some money to keep going. I had to call out an electrician at my own expense to get my power back up and running. He then proceeded to take readings of power coming into the building and even isolated the building to prove that the building or anything in it wasn't the problem. He suspected it was the new joint the contractors had done as they had to move my electricity feed to make way for the fast food giant.

This is where it starts getting fun! As you can imagine, a small, independent, local vehicle repair shop trying to get anywhere with anyone at McDonald's to own up and have the problem looked at and solved whilst the joint was still easily accessible before they buried it under tarmac, was not easy. In fact, no one paid any attention to me, I hassled, I made phone calls, I sent emails... no one was interested or able to help. They finally sent 2 of their own electricians round 2 days before site completion to test, and guess what, apparently all was fine! Must have been a one off they said. I was not impressed or convinced, asked for a copy of their report, which, surprise surprise, hasn't materialised. Somehow, I have not had any more issues... until Friday 21st November. Mid afternoon, raising a vehicle up on our 2 post lift, ramps and sockets all die. The vehicle on the ramp was meant to be serviced and the customer needing it back by 16:30.

I tried everything, again, to no avail. Landlord, who still has contacts high up to whom he sold the land, not interested. Phoned the project manager of the site who is claiming to do all he can to help, tells me to contact UK power network. As luck would have it, UKPN were on site switching over to the new substation. Asked them to take a look, surprise surprise, they are only responsible for the wiring into the cabinet, anything after that is not their responsibility. All I have heard for months is no one is responsible for my power issues. Someone has to be responsible and I will not stop until someone is held responsible and fixes their c**k up. In the almost 17 years of being in this workshop I have never had any electrical issues at all. McDonald's come along, move my feed and I've lost power twice in 4 months. Coincidence? Not at all!

So, how does this affect you, the customers. Well, Friday wasn't exactly going smoothly as it was prior to the power going out, I was already going to be behind now I'm even further behind. I'm asking all of our customers to remain patient with us while we work through back log, and, if you would be so kind as to like and share this as much as you can so we can get as much attention as possible. Hopefully, someone might listen!

A few jobs we've had in this week. Only managed to get pictures of 2 jobs.

2019 Volvo XC40 2.0 Diesel in for a leaking AdBlue injector. Replaced with genuine parts. Turned out to be a fairly simple fix as the part didn't need to be programmed to the vehicle. (See pictures)

We've had the usual MOT and service work. A low mileage Mini at 5 years old for a major service, first major service it has had in its life. A 2018 Vauxhall Astra in for a minor service, many issues found, some repaired at the request of the customer, one being a burnt out terminal to the driver's rear light meaning the sidelight and brake light were very dull when operated.

The last picture is of an inlet manifold on a Range Rover. This is one of two vehicles that have come in this week with aftermarket "tuning boxes" fitted to the engine management system to supposedly improve performance and fuel economy. The Range Rover suffered from an overboost condition, meaning too much boost pressure from the turbo was forced through the manifold cracking and splitting it open forcing the engine to lose power and enter into limp home mode. This has now turned into an expensive repair for the customer for supposed long term gain.
We also have a BMW 1 series 1.6 petrol turbo currently in with us for poor running and misfire issues. We also found a tuning box fitted to this vehicle. We haven't fully diagnosed this one yet so check back next week to see the outcome.

Not the most exciting job we've had to do this week, but it is a very important job nonetheless.

We had this 2014 Ford C-Max 1.6 diesel come in after the owner had to be jump started after picking up the kids from school.

A quick inspection of the battery and a health test was carried out to find that not only had the battery deteriorated, it was the incorrect battery that had been previously fitted by someone else.

We have stressed the importance before about ensuring the correct battery is fitted, especially on more modern vehicles with stop start function and smart charge. It is also imperative on Ford vehicles from around 2010/2011 model years onwards to fit a genuine Ford battery, otherwise the electrical features on the vehicle can do strange things.

We would also like to state that there is nothing wrong with Yuasa batteries like the one shown in the photo, we actually fit and champion Yuasa batteries as one of the best out there. Sadly, even Yuasa wasn't suitable for this Ford.

We offer battery health checks, if you are concerned about your battery with winter approaching, contact us and we will carry out a battery check on your vehicle.

We have now added Bosch diagnostic software to our range of diagnostic options along with our Hella tools and Autel. We are excited to add this particular diagnostic tool to our range as it has a wider range of capabilities built in which should aid us in diagnosing and repairing customer vehicles.
