Ford transits of all types are one of the most regular vans brought to network specialists for DPF related problems. Owners want to avoid the unnecessary expense of replacing DPF units, too many are drawn-in by companies who say they will clean them at a great price.

The key is never just to clean. There is no point unblocking a DPF unless you are going to fix the fault that caused it to block in the first place. If you do not fix the fault, then either the cleaned DPF or even a new DPF is likely to block up again, that could happen soon after the clean or replacement.

With this Transit Custom the blockage was due to a faulty senor, relied upon by the vehicles ECU to signal that the vehicle was at the correct temperature to start the regeneration process. Replacing or cleaning the DPF unit would never remove that problem and without fixing it (in this case replacing the sensor) blockage would happen again pretty quickly.

By correctly diagnosing the fault and fitting a new quality replacement sensor the DPF was able to regenerate – so no cleaning fee was even required.

VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) cars are probably the most popular cars to be TerraCleaned.

And here’s another, this Audi A3 Sportback TDI was booked in for the unique Service using patented fluids.

One of our fellow TerraClean dealers had a Jaguar XF 3.0 Diesel in with a DPF Light on and car in limp home mode brought to them by the owner.

Their first action was to carry out professional diagnostics to determine the reason the unit had blocked, it turned out to be a relatively inexpensive and easy to fit sensor not the expensive DPF unit itself. Once that was replaced the garage carried out our DPF Cleaning Service and reset the fault codes, the car is driving like new again without the need to replace the expensive DPF Filter.

Another happy owner. The key messages we want owners to pick up on are; please do not jump to having DPF's replaced, we find in most cases this is not required & get professional diagnostics - this means by somebody who has been trained to understand what the results mean. A fault code is not an answer it needs an experienced trained professional to consider it.

It's been an extremely busy couple of weeks in the network for fixing . At the very top of the problem list is the Nissan Qashqai.

DPF cleaning is the single most popular "problem" we and our fellow 500+ TerraClean UK Authorised centers are asked to address for owners of diesel cars.

This Audi was presented to a fellow dealer by a garage local to themselves who had cleaned the DPF - but it had re-blocked and they could not work our why or resolve the problems - no power & dropping into limp mode.

Yes it needed the DPF cleaning - but the reason for the DPF blockage needed to be identified to avoid the problem simply reoccurring after the DPF clean. The TC dealer carried out professional diagnostics, identified and resolved the root cause of the problem a few hours later the car was back on the road running as the owner would want. We do not expect to see it back again soon.
