Been quiet on the social media front but that's because we're not quiet in the workshop! Ford transit wet belt failure stripped down for damage assessment. Teeth shredded from the belt as suspected, a bunch of rockers broken and a few bent valves. An even bigger issue laid inside though! During inspection it was noticed that the swirl chamber in the top of the pistons were slightly deformed. Once cleaned up a little cracks were found in the tops of all 4 pistons on opposing sides where the material is at its thinnest. This deformation and cracking is caused by over fuelling from tired fuel injectors. Have seen cases where the injector 'cuts' a hole through the piston into the cylinder wall. This engine was on borrowed time regardless of the cambelt failure.

Clearing a blocked fuel vaporiser on a ford c-max today. These act as a '5th' injector during the diesel particulate filter regeneration process, injecting additional fuel straight into the exhaust in order to increase temperatures to help burn off all the soot build up within the DPF. These are notorious for blocking up which in turn causes failed regenerations. Genuine replacements are in excess of £300! But thankfully the majority of the time with some perseverance and some heat 🔥 these can be unblocked 👌 DPF regeneration carried out to confirm all is functioning correctly and she's good to go 👍

Everything fully stripped and damage assessed. Unfortunately due to the oil starvation the top end of the engine is quite heavily scored within the cam bearing journals. The bottom end had just began to wipe the bearing material but thankfully no damage sustained to the crankshaft. The gauze for the turbo oil feed is blocked with debris which has subsequently starved the turbo of oil also. The customer has opted to have this rebuilt so now to begin a thorough clean up process to ensure all this debris is cleared. Replacement cylinder head, camshafts and turbo ordered. A complete re-shell of the bottom end, fresh oil pump and belts and it'll be good to go 🤙

Chapter 2 of the ecoboom diaries! Suspicions confirmed, the oil pump pick up is clogged solid with the broken up material from the cambelt and oil pump belt. The belt itself is beginning to fray and heavy cracking, if the oil pressure light hadn't come on this was indefinitely just a few more miles away from failing all together with more catastrophic damage.

VW transporter with multiple engine sensor faults. Found evidence of the human hand. Someone has tried overlaying the wiring harness in the past, which although is an acceptable form of repair it is necessary to make sure your joints are tight/secure and also weatherproof, water has set into these joints and corroded the wiring leaving only a few strands making contact. We will reconnect this as best we can for now but ideally look to get the pins replaced at the connector due to being cut so short and re-overlay the repair with clean new wiring.

The infamous Ford Ecoboom 💥 this little 1.0 ecoboost has 0 oil pressure suspected due to the 'wetbelt' cambelt breaking up and blocking the oil pick. We'll get it stripped down, damage assessed and decide the best route to take with the customer 👌
