🚨 Important DVSA Driving Test Booking Change from tomorrow, 9 June 2026 🚨

From tomorrow, learner drivers will no longer be able to move their car driving test to any test centre they like.

Under the new DVSA rules, when changing your test, you can only:

✅ Stay at the same test centre
✅ Move to one of the 3 nearest test centres
✅ Move back to the test centre you first booked at

This means it’s now more important than ever to book your test at the right centre from the start and speak to your instructor before making changes.

For our local learners, these are the centres you can move to:

📍 If your test is booked at Northampton:
• Wellingborough
• Kettering
• Rugby

📍 If your test is booked at Kettering:
• Wellingborough
• Northampton
• Bedford

📍 If your test is booked at Wellingborough:
• Kettering
• Northampton
• Bedford

This change is designed to stop people booking tests in random areas and then trying to move them later. It should help make the system fairer, but it also means learners need to plan carefully.

At Driving Skills Academy, we’ll always help you make sensible decisions about your test timing, test centre and readiness.

At Driving Skills Academy, we believe being a great driving instructor is about more than teaching people how to pass a test.

That is why we are including a full-day Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work course as part of our franchise package.

This practical course helps ensure our instructors are better equipped to deal with an emergency, whether that involves themselves, a learner, another road user, or a member of the public.

First aid knowledge is also part of what learner drivers are expected to understand through the theory test, so it makes sense that our instructors can confidently support and reinforce that learning too.

I passed my driving test first time with Chris, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience!I had all of my lessons in Northampton and took my test in Northampton as well. From the very beginning, Chris made me feel comfortable and confident behind the wheel. The lessons were always well-structured, relaxed, and tailored to what I needed to improve. He explained everything clearly, was very patient, and never made me feel rushed or stressed, even when I made mistakes. Each lesson was productive, and I could see my confidence and driving skills improving every week.Just before my test, there was a last-minute issue with the car I was supposed to use. Chris quickly got everything sorted by arranging for me to use another instructor’s car. First time pass for Veronika! 🥳🚗

A massive congratulations to Veronika, who passed her driving test first time today.

And this one came with an extra challenge!

My car had gone into the garage for a starter motor replacement, but unfortunately the wrong part was delivered, meaning it wasn’t ready in time for Veronika’s test.

That could have been a very stressful situation, especially the day before a driving test.

Thankfully, this is where being part of a proper team really matters.

A huge thank you to Gary, one of our Driving Skills Academy instructors, who stepped in and offered his car so Veronika’s test could still go ahead.

Not only did Veronika have to take her test in a car she had never driven before, but it also had a manual handbrake instead of the automatic handbrake she was used to in my Focus.

And she still went out and passed first time. 👏

That shows real confidence, adaptability and composure under pressure.

For learners, this is a great example of the benefit of choosing a driving school with a strong local team behind it.

For instructors, it shows the value of being part of a franchise where people genuinely support each other.

Well done Veronika. You handled the situation brilliantly.

When things don’t go to plan, the right team makes all the difference.

This week, one of my learners has their driving test booked for tomorrow.

Then, at the worst possible time, my training car developed a starter motor fault and had to go into the garage.

The plan was simple: get the repair done and be ready for test day.

Unfortunately, the wrong part was delivered, meaning my car will not be ready in time.

For a learner, that could have meant panic, stress, and possibly even missing their test.

But this is where being part of a proper driving school team really matters.

At Driving Skills Academy, we don’t just work as individual instructors. We support each other, look after our learners, and pull together when it counts.

A huge thank you to Gary, one of our Driving Skills Academy instructors, who stepped in and offered his car as a backup so my learner’s test can still go ahead tomorrow.

It means the learner still has a suitable car available, still has support, and still has the opportunity to take their test.

For learners, this shows the value of choosing a driving school with a strong local team behind it.

Great to meet so many people at the Northampton Jobs Fair 🚗

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by the Driving Skills Academy stand to talk about becoming a driving instructor.

We had some really honest and positive conversations about what the job is actually like, including the flexibility, the earning potential, the training process, and the support needed to build a long-term career.

At Driving Skills Academy, we don’t make unrealistic promises. Like any industry, driving instruction has peaks and troughs. But those who train properly, deliver high standards, keep learning, and have the right support around them are the ones best placed to succeed.
