Two water pumps made for eu6 Volkswagen engines. The one on the right we don’t agree with.

Why ? The one on left is a genuine vw part and is like for like for the original pump the car was made with. It has a switchable sleeve which turns the flow of the pump on and off. The one on the right is an inferior quality aftermarket pump that doesn’t have the switchable sleeve. We are seeing a lot of these that have been fitted and yes at the time of doing the job you might have saved about £100 in cost. In the long run however the engine is going to take longer to warm up, produce more carbon build up, generally be more inefficient and it could even shorten the lifespan of the engine.
This aftermarket pump has also been leaking at under two years old.
This is why we will refuse to fit anything but genuine vw parts while changing the timing belt on all the eu6 vw diesels.

This is the degraded wet belt material from a psa 1.2 puretech engine commonly found in Citroen/peugeot/vauxhalls. This blocks the strainer (essentially the straw that sucks the oil to supply the engine) this if left can cause turbo failure, vacuum pump failure and even a total engine failure.

We recommend getting the belt inspected at every service and usually replaced at 25 thousand mile intervals as long as no services have been missed.
