🎉 MARSH AUTO SERVICES IS 1 YEAR OLD TODAY! 🎉

Today marks 1 whole year since I took the leap and started Marsh Auto Services. 🚗🔧

I honestly can’t believe how quickly the year has gone, and I’m really proud of how the business has grown over the last 12 months.

A huge thank you to every customer who has trusted me with their vehicles, recommended me, left a review, shared my posts or supported the business along the way. ❤️

I’d also like to thank Davey Borthwick at Total Tuning for giving me the opportunity to get started and for his support over the past year. His many years of experience running a successful business and the advice he’s given along the way have been a massive help. 👍

It’s been a fantastic first year, and I’m looking forward to continuing to build the business for many more years to come 🔧🚗

One year down… here’s to year two! 🥂🔧

🚨 ANOTHER LUCKY ESCAPE FOR THIS BMW 4 SERIES GRAN COUPE! 🔧

A customer contacted us late afternoon after hearing a loud bang from his BMW, followed shortly afterwards by the battery warning light appearing on the dashboard.

From those symptoms, I suspected the auxiliary drive belt had snapped, so we arranged for the vehicle to come into Marsh Auto Services for inspection.

Once the vehicle arrived, I carried out a full inspection and found the actual cause:

⚠️ The crankshaft pulley had failed and broken apart, causing the auxiliary drive belt to come off.

These are commonly known as damper pulleys or harmonic balancers. They're designed with a rubber section bonded between metal components to absorb engine vibrations and reduce stress on the crankshaft and auxiliary drive system.

Over time, heat, age and constant engine load can cause the rubber to deteriorate, crack and eventually separate, exactly what had happened here.

💥 BUT THERE WAS ANOTHER IMPORTANT REASON THIS NEEDED DEALING WITH IMMEDIATELY.

On this engine, the water pump is driven by the auxiliary belt.

Once the belt came off, the water pump was no longer being driven. If the customer had continued driving the vehicle, the engine could have quickly overheated, potentially resulting in major and very expensive engine damage.

So that battery warning light wasn't something to simply drive home and deal with later.

🔍 WE CHECKED EVERYTHING BEFORE REPAIRING IT

We inspected the rest of the auxiliary drive system for any signs of damage or excessive wear, and thankfully everything else was in good condition.

We then ordered and fitted:

✅ New crankshaft/damper pulley
✅ New auxiliary drive belt
✅ Full inspection of the surrounding drive system

The vehicle was repaired and ready for collection the following morning. 👌

💥 THE CUSTOMER WAS VERY LUCKY IN THIS CASE.

When these pulleys fail, the separated outer section can potentially become trapped behind the rest of the crankshaft pulley or another rotating component, causing much more serious damage.

Thankfully, this one dropped onto the lower cover and was easily removed without causing any further issues.

Had the vehicle continued to be driven, the situation could potentially have gone from a relatively straightforward repair to major engine damage due to loss of coolant circulation.

Another quick diagnosis, efficient repair and another customer safely back on the road. 🚗💨

This is why we always recommend getting unusual noises or warning lights checked as soon as possible.

A problem caught early can save you thousands in unnecessary repair costs.

🚨 RANGE ROVER EVOQUE OWNERS —
THIS COULD SAVE YOU £1000s! 🚨

We recently had a 2021-plate Range Rover Evoque 1.5 petrol/hybrid come into Marsh Auto Services after developing a horrendous noise from the drivetrain.

The cause? 👇

A driver's side driveshaft bearing housing support bracket had failed.

This failure lets the shaft shift under load, causing clunking and vibrations.

When we removed the original bracket, it was clear just how badly it had deteriorated. The original design uses a relatively thin section of material, and in this case it had failed badly enough to allow movement around the driveshaft bearing.

🔧 What makes this particularly concerning is the replacement part.

The latest genuine Land Rover replacement is noticeably stronger, with a much more substantial design, and the replacement bolts are also longer.

That strongly suggests the original design has been revised to address a known weakness although, as far as we're aware, there has been no official admission that the original component is subject to a manufacturing/design fault.

⚠️ And here's where this gets expensive…

The customer had already taken the vehicle to Land Rover for diagnosis.

The vehicle was there for 8 WEEKS.

They were quoted around £1,200 to repair the initial fault, and were also warned that if the problem had caused further damage, they could potentially be looking at £8,000–£10,000 for a replacement gearbox. 😳

The customer contacted us, so we arranged recovery of the vehicle to Marsh Auto Services.

We diagnosed the problem, ordered the genuine replacement parts, carried out the repair and had the vehicle back on the road within just 2 DAYS. 🔧✅

And thankfully for the customer, our final bill was less than half of the price originally quoted by Land Rover.

💥 THE IMPORTANT BIT FOR EVOQUE OWNERS

If you own a Range Rover Evoque of this shape, we strongly recommend having the driveshaft bearing support/half-moon bracket inspected.

The replacement bracket itself is a very inexpensive component, less than £10.

But if it fails, the consequences could be:

❌ Driveshaft damage
❌ Bearing/mounting damage
❌ Further drivetrain damage
❌ Potential gearbox damage costing THOUSANDS

A £10 component could potentially turn into £1000s to repair

At Marsh Auto Services, we don't just replace the part that has failed, we look at WHY it failed and check for any associated damage.

If you have a Range Rover Evoque, it may be worth getting this checked before it becomes an expensive problem.

🚗 Don’t Let a Timing Belt Snap Ruin Your Engine! 🚗

Your timing belt is one of the most critical components in your engine, but it’s often overlooked until it’s too late.

At Marsh Auto Services, we can’t stress this enough: checking and replacing your timing belt at the recommended interval can save you thousands in repair costs. 💸

⏱️ Most manufacturers recommend replacement between 60,000–100,000 miles, but every vehicle is different.

⚠️ If it snaps it can cause serious engine damage and sometimes even total engine failure.

✅ Avoid unexpected breakdowns
✅ Protect your engine
✅ Drive with confidence

If you’re unsure when yours was last changed, or something doesn't sound right with your engine now’s the time to check. Get in touch with Marsh Auto Services today, we’ll make sure everything is running exactly as it should.

🚨 Clutch Replacement Warning.
Don't Make This Costly Mistake! 🚨

Ever wondered why we always recommend replacing the Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF) at the same time as your clutch?

A worn DMF causes excessive movement and vibration, which chews through your shiny new clutch prematurely.

Here's a real-world example from our workshop, look at this destroyed clutch after the customer skipped the DMF last time.

Springs shattered, plates fragmented, and excessive play wrecked it all!

Why it happens:

DMF dampens engine vibrations; when worn, it rattles, jerks, and slips transferring stress straight to the clutch.

Labour to access is the same (gearbox out!), so doing it separately later = double the labour cost.

The result? Another full clutch job sooner than expected, costing you extra time off the road and more cost. 😩

Do it right first time, full clutch kit and DMF for long lasting reliability.
