Was this dealt with safely?

Our learner took the 2nd exit while another car was already signalling for the 2nd exit from the opposite side.

Did he read the situation safely, or was this a mistake? What about the other car?

Tell us what you think in the comments. We'll reveal the answer in our next post πŸ‘‡

Left turn. Slight drift. Fault or fine? πŸš—

The learner is taking a left turn, and if you watch closely, you'll notice something happens with the car's positioning as it comes round.

What do you think of this turn?

This is exactly the kind of small detail that catches learners out on test day. It is easy to miss when you are focused on steering, checking mirrors, and thinking about the next junction all at once, which is why practice with an experienced instructor makes such a difference.

Drop your answer in the comments and let us know what you spotted. We will share the correct answer in a follow-up post soon, so keep an eye out.

He didn't even see it coming πŸ‘€πŸš—

The car behind changed lanes. Our learner didn't check his mirrors and switched lanes right after... no signal at all ⚠️

The car behind had to slow down.

Our instructor asked him what happened. He couldn't say 😳

He had no idea what went wrong.

Can you identify the driving fault?

πŸ”΄ RED LIGHT. This car had NO intention of stopping 😳

Our learner had already stopped, waited for the green, and checked before turning right. Then another car came flying through the crossing, running the red light completely.

One second of bad timing and this could've been very different. Sharp reactions kept it safe πŸ‘

Joining a dual carriageway slip road can feel daunting for a lot of learners, especially when the slip road is on the shorter side.

As our learner approached the slip road, he signalled early and clearly, letting other road users know his intentions well in advance. A lorry driver in the next lane spotted the signal and safely changed lanes to give him the space he needed to join.

From there, our learner kept a steady, appropriate speed, judged the gap carefully, and merged onto the carriageway smoothly and with confidence, despite having less slip road than usual to work with.

This is a great example of how good observation, clear communication, and confident decision-making all come together to make a manoeuvre safe. It also shows why signalling early matters so much: it gives other drivers time to react and help you.

Lane Discipline on Roundabouts.

Many learners get confused when a roundabout has 3 exits. It is one of the most common mistakes on the driving test.

In this video, our instructor demonstrates the correct technique for the student. They read the roundabout first. Then they choose the correct lane. Then they signal at the right time. Finally, they take the 3rd exit onto the A186 towards Newcastle.

Good lane discipline like this can help you pass your driving test on the first try.

At Azhar Driving School, we teach automatic driving lessons in Newcastle, Gosforth, Jesmond, Heaton, Gateshead, Wallsend, Longbenton, and Fenham.

We also teach in English, Urdu, Bangla, and Hindi. So language is never a barrier to learning to drive.

Mandatory or advisory? Most learners are unaware of the difference, and it can cost them marks on their driving test.

Here's what happened during a recent lesson on the Gateshead route:

Our learner was following the sign for Newcastle when he passed a countdown marker with two stripes. That marker means a dual carriageway exit is 200 yards ahead. He missed the cue and signalled late, an easy mistake, but one that examiners mark every time.

Then came the real test. The instructor pointed to a speed sign and asked: Is this advisory or mandatory?

He answered correctly, advisory. But here's what most learners get wrong, even when they know the terminology: advisory does not mean you must drive at exactly that number. It means stay in control at a safe speed, which may be under or over the figure shown.

Once he understood both, he crossed the roundabout cleanly, signals on time, speed judged correctly, and no hesitation.

This is exactly why sign recognition matters as much as steering and control. Knowing the rules behind the signs is what separates a learner who scrapes through and a driver who's genuinely ready.

If you're learning to drive in Newcastle, Gateshead, Gosforth, Jesmond, Heaton, or the surrounding areas, and want lessons that actually explain the why behind every rule, not just the how, get in touch.

We also teach in Urdu, Bangla, and Hindi, so language is never a barrier to learning properly.

Do you know what this sign means before a roundabout? πŸ‘€

One of the best ways to build real driving confidence is to let learners follow the road signs independently.

Today, I asked my learner to follow the signs with only a little guidance, and he absolutely nailed it! πŸ‘

This is how we prepare for independent driving: learning to read road signs, follow road markings, and make safe decisions with confidence. These are the skills that matter most, not just for passing the driving test, but for driving safely for life.
