🚩 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ALL LEARNER DRIVERS 🚩

In the coming months, DVSA will:

🚗 Change the booking service to allow only learner car drivers to book and manage their tests (instructor can set availability)

🚗 Introduce a limit on the number of times a learner car driver can move or swap a test to twice and also limit the area they can move a test to once booked.

🚗 Make use of Ministry of Defence (MOD) driving examiners for up to 12 months to help tackle driving test waiting times.

This will mean that to run and manage a driving school will now become so difficult…
🚘 I currently book all tests on a Monday morning at 6am when tests are released. (Saves you waking up!)
🚘 I am able to swap and change tests on my system as let’s be honest who knows what their plans are in 6 months time!!
🚘 I plan my tests around students progress and how fast their learn.
🚘 I plan my diary for future students and lessons in advance using driving tests as a guide.

🚗Overall, this decision will have a huge impact on the driving schools everywhere.

Jason

🚗 PASSED BUT NOT READY

✋ Let’s talk about something uncomfortable.

Far too many people think instructors are only after their money.
They roll their eyes when told they are not ready.
They think lessons are being dragged out for profit.
What they do not see are the stories behind those words.

We have seen what happens when someone rushes to take the test before they are truly ready.
We have seen overconfidence turn into tragedy.
We have seen the quiet ones, the nervous ones, the “I will be fine” ones who go out alone and never come home.

We do not say “you are not ready” to control anyone.
We say it after years of watching what impatience can cause.
We say it after seeing flowers tied to lampposts and cars wrapped around trees.
We say it after hearing the silence that follows a family being told their child will not return.

The truth is that many can pass a driving test without being safe.
Ticking boxes does not prepare anyone for the realities of the road.
There is no examiner when you are driving in the rain, when headlights glare, or when a friend distracts you.
A certificate shows the minimum standard met.
It does not mean you are equipped to handle what life will throw at you.

Parents must stop rushing them.
Learners must stop comparing themselves to friends who have passed.
Everyone must stop assuming we want to keep them longer than necessary.
We are not here to take your money.
We are here to give you a chance to live.

Every instructor who has been in this industry long enough carries stories they wish they could forget.
We fight to prevent more names being added to those stories.
We push for readiness, not perfection.
We care more about your safety than your schedule.

A driving test is one day.
Driving safely is every day after.
Life is too precious to risk for the sake of being fast or cheap.
If we say you are not ready, it is not to hold you back.

It is to make sure you get to keep moving forward.

The Mirror Trick
The golden rule for safe driving:

Mirror → Signal → Manoeuvre.

Here’s the quick demo:

1️⃣ Mirror
check first, so you know what’s around you.
2️⃣ Signal
tell others what you plan to do.
3️⃣ Manoeuvre
only act when it’s safe to do so.

⚠️ When you swap the order:

Signal before mirror → you could give the wrong message.

Manoeuvre before mirror → you risk hitting what you didn’t see.

💡 Tip: Say the words quietly to yourself when you first start driving
“Mirror… Signal… Manoeuvre.”

It helps lock the rhythm into your muscle memory.
