Wheel alignment might not be the most exciting part of owning a car - but neither is replacing your tyres sooner than expected!

Poor alignment can cause:

- Uneven or rapid tyre wear
- Pulling to one side
- Steering wheel to be off-centre
- Less predictable handling

Potholes, kerbs and worn suspension can all knock things out of line.

If your tyres are wearing unevenly or your car isn’t driving quite straight, it may be time for an alignment check.

This tyre really was running on its cords.
The thin lines visible through the rubber are the tyre’s internal reinforcing cords. Once these are exposed, the tyre is no longer safe or legal to use and is at serious risk of failure.

What makes this one particularly concerning is that the worst wear was on the inner edge - an area that can be difficult to see during a quick walk around your vehicle.

Uneven tyre wear can be caused by issues including:
- Incorrect wheel alignment
- Worn or damaged suspension components
- Incorrect tyre pressures
- Delaying tyre replacement for too long

This is why we don’t only check the easily visible part of the tread. We inspect the tyre across its full width, including the inner and outer edges.

Before setting off on a long summer journey, check your tyres carefully - or ask us to check them for you. A tyre might look ok from the outer edge, while hiding a serious problem on the inside.

A few minutes spent checking now could prevent a breakdown - or something much more serious.
We can often fit tyres on the same day, but planning in advance makes it much easier to help you!

🐀 Someone had made themselves at home in this pollen filter…
During our inspection, we discovered evidence that a mouse had been nesting inside the vehicle. Sadly, the mouse was later found deceased elsewhere within the vehicle - we’ll spare you that photograph!

Rodents can cause more than just an unpleasant surprise. They may:

- Build nests in filters and air intakes
- Restrict airflow into the vehicle
- Chew through wiring, hoses and insulation
- Cause warning lights, electrical faults or unpleasant smells
- Find their way into areas that could affect how the vehicle operates

Vehicles that are used infrequently or parked near fields, hedges, barns or stored food can be particularly vulnerable.

If you notice an unusual smell, strange noises from behind the dashboard or unexplained electrical problems, it is worth having the vehicle checked. Sometimes the smallest visitors can cause surprisingly big problems.

The last couple of months have been incredibly busy here, but we have managed to fit in a few days out and make some lovely summer memories with our family.

Summer often means relying on our vehicles even more - whether you’re working, heading to the airport, driving down to Cornwall, travelling across Europe or simply enjoying days out with the family.

Before a longer journey, take a few minutes to check:
- Tyre pressures, tread depth and condition
- Engine oil and coolant levels
- Screenwash
- Lights
- Any warning lights or unusual noises

If your vehicle is due a service, has a known fault or needs something checking, please don’t leave it until the day before you travel.
We regularly hear, “We’re driving to the airport tomorrow” or “We’re going to Cornwall this weekend”, and we completely understand the worry when something suddenly needs attention. We will always help where we can, but our diary and the availability of parts can make last-minute repairs difficult.
A little advance planning gives us the best chance of getting everything sorted - and means much less stress for you before your holiday.

If you have a journey coming up, check your vehicle now and book any work in as early as possible. We want your summer memories to come from the places you visit - not the hard shoulder!
