Let’s talk about mileage blockers or another name KM freeze devices… These devices cost about £300 and basically freeze the odometer of the car. They are usually removed before point of sale. Obviously the higher the mileage displayed the less valuable the car is, so there are A LOT of cars out there with these devices fitted. All is well and good when it’s active as all your Speedo, cruise control and safety systems still work fine. The issue is that the instrument cluster broadcasts the mileage over a network to all control units and they all report the same figure… the snag is that the control units also have their own mileage figure which is usually the correct ✅ higher number… so when you look at the actual values it has two mileage figures that do not match… A real problem for a car that needs warranty work or being inspected and sold on through a Porsche dealer. I have done 3 of these clusters now and 2 were for main Porsche dealerships. The instrument clusters are around £5500 - £6500 to replace, We have come up with a solution that can basically inject a speed signal into the unit and stops when the odometer gets to the pre-determined value. These instrument clusters are not able to be adjusted by editing the mileage directly so are very safe from being tampered with and for the time being this is the only way we can help preserve the original cluster and save the dealer some money 💰 after all they are losing enough on the extra miles the car now has displayed.
