Riot Cars

Riot Cars Riot Cars Whether you’re after the classic look or a race machine the Riot is extremely versatile.

So when Xmoor cars took over the project in Arpil 2013 it was essential that whatever modifications and updates were made to the original design, that the core values of what makes the Riot so good were kept. And this is exactly what Xmoor cars have done with the new Riot Classic. The original Riot, designed by Jeremy Phillips, was launched by Sylva Auto kits in 2003 and won Kit Car of the year in 2005

Due to recent very unfortunate personal circumstances we have been away from work for nearly two weeks and therefore will not be attending this years Stoneleigh Show with a stand. I do hope to attend as a regular visitor so that I can meet with those customers we had arranged to see. My sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may cause and we do hope to start getting back to normal w/b 13th May.

For customers that have early Sylva Riots with the Ford gearbox from a Mk4 Fiesta / Puma and find the gear change to be very poor / stiff we have now designed a cable linkage to replace the rod system. The issue with the early rod set up is that the engine was tilted backwards making it near impossible to get a decent low angle to the gear selector shaft. The images show the trial version being fitted to a customers car. If anyone is interested let us know and we will price up a conversion kit depending on your requirements.

Last Thursday 29th November we looked at a couple of low mileage Discovery's at South East MPV & 4x4 Centre Ltd Faringdon near Swindon. We ended up negotiating a great deal on a Cains Blue Disco with just 47,000 miles on the clock, left a deposit of £1000 and made arrangements to collect it on Saturday the 1st. Well Saturday morning arrives with an email from the garage saying that the Discovery was no longer available as someone else had bought it 30 mins before we had on the Thursday! With plenty of evidence to prove this was not true, we informed Adrian of this and our total dissatisfaction with what he had done and so demanded our deposit back. He initially said it would be Monday before he could pay it back to us even though it could be done within 2 hours by bank transfer. After telling him this was not good enough he ended up getting very shirty and reluctantly agreed to transferring it on Sunday. So here we are on Tuesday the 4th and no deposit money has been returned plus he's now ignoring our calls what a surprise! So we are now taking appropriate action and also informing anyone who is looking at buying from this garage to look elsewhere, they cannot be trusted. Please Share

so as I write this post at 14.18 our delivery from FedEx in Weston Super Mare that was promised by 12 noon today has just arrived. Extremely annoying, since I have customers waiting for parts. But what really, really makes me angry is the fact it should have been here last WEDNESDAY and I have phoned and chased them twice since and promised delivery the following working day.
Last Wednesday I get a call from Fedex saying the address seems incomplete, I give them the address and a description of the property, bearing in mind that there are only 5 properties in that post code area one of which is derelict and the others are cottages!
How hard can it be.
Fedex Weston Super Mare you are a bunch of Incompetents!

As many of you will know I'm a big fan of fuel injection and ecu's. To me, carburettors belong in the world of wizards amongst the dark arts! I have wired up many ecu's from OE's to Omex and find it an enjoyable task, like building lego. Even when there is a problem or something isn't working and serious head scratching is involved, following logical steps usually results in the solution being found.

I say usually, because last week and until today my logical approach played no part in the solution as to why this engine would just not start. Its that scenario, when you know its going to be something really obvious but you just cant see it...

The engine was a used Zetec with an Omex ECU. It came in with a horrible fast tick over popping and banging but it ran...just. So after sorting a few wiring issues including, wiring in the air control valve, discovering the vacuum outlet had not been blanked off, adding a relay for the fuel pump and engine power supply we were good to go.

Except the bloody thing just wouldn't start, it would turn over and try to fire up but it wasn't going to play. So multi-meter in hand I ended up checking every single wire, every terminal, swapped the coil pack, checked the ecu several times for two days I searched and found nothing. Till today...

Today I did what I should have done first, what I would have done if it was running carburettors, yes you got it check the spark plugs. They were so wet n gummed up from all that running rich that no matter what I measured from the coil pack no spark was going brave that mess.

So after a good clean and drying them out in they went and after a several hesitant moments the damn thing fired up. Another lesson re-learned!!

Here's a sneak peek of our updated Riot wide track rear suspension. (+50mm each side) Stronger in the right places and a whole lot lighter too. It enables standard Ford driveshafts to be used saving the cost of modification necessary on the previous version. Please note, we are aware it's not been bolted up in the photo!
Our new suspension can be retro fitted to older Riots, please email us for details. Also our new wide track front suspension will be along very soon and again will be retro compatible.

Finally we are trialling a new super tough mat black powder coat on our suspension components and will update you to see how it does.

We have in an early unfinished Sylva Riot with a really stiff practically unusable gear shift. It has a rod linkage which usually produces a rifle bolt like gear change. So having checked the sliding parts were all nice and free it was time to investigate further and do some serious head scratching. The first image is off the linkage removed, so the only thing I can think of is that the tube is too long and creating too steep an angle for the rod to rotate and move forwards and backwards freely.
So the idea is to shorten the tube, lengthen the shaft and angle it down towards the gearbox linkage aiming to keep it all as straight as possible. Oh and keep the mounting positions the same! Several cut n shuts later here we have the new linkage before painting.
Now before re-installing and testing I really have to tidy up that tunnel, one job always leads to another!! Wires wrapped around fuel hoses that are just flapping around, loads of lost nuts and washers plus a needle file in there too. So tomorrow we put it all back it there and see if it all works!
