Belgian Built.Mk2 Preservation Project

Im afraid I haven't had much to show for my week so far, but work is progressing on this Mk2 Project.
The r/h inner wing is repaired and ready for the new inner A panel.
Onto the other side in the morning. I do anticipate getting a lot more done this week.
Next week I won't be here, I'm jetting off to Crete for a well deserved break from the stresses of life for 7 days, and I cant wait, it'll be lovely and I'll hopefully come back refreshed and ready to get some serious work done😊💪

Sincere apologies for sounding blunt, I really don't mean to sound rude.

As much as I want to, I won't be attending Beaulieu tomorrow for one simple reason, I've been contacted and asked by so many people if they can meet and talk to me about a restoration project that I'm going to stay home.

It's not that I don't want your work, I appreciate you considering me, but it's the weekend. When I go to a show I don't want to discuss work, I just want to look at nice cars and chill with my friends.

I missed Blyton this year for the same reason.

Sorry

Belgian Built.Mk2 Preservation Project

This is the post that I should have done yesterday.
This week got both rear quarter panels and new door steps fitted.
If you remember back when the shell was on the roll over jig and I made the repair sections for the toe panel, I only tacked them in place at the time so that I could verify their position on the jig before fully welding. They were very close, so with very minor fettle I welded them up, and spotwelded the floor to the toe panel. The subframe fits nicely now.
I began working on the inner wing repair sections yesterday afternoon and got one tacked in place.
At about 4:30, I brought the Minor into the workshop to sort out a headlamp that didn't work, which was just a corroded bullet connector, and replace a broken rear indicator.
I took it for a drive to get fuel, then found a bit of a leak when I got back to work, that's what Ill be fixing today as well as popping the brake drums off to check out the shoes.
The fuel leak is what made me forget to post yesterday.

Have a great weekend. I'll make a post later about what I get up to with the Minor today

Just been to collect "Maisie" the Morris Minor.

That was so much fun, only a 20 minute drive from the workshop, but I had a grin from ear to ear the whole journey.

I can't wait till the weekend to tinker.
I MUST NOT get distracted by it the rest of the week, need to do some work😂

I said a couple of weeks ago that there's a classic that I've always wanted, and I've found the one.
There were a lot of people trying to guess what it was and nobody got it.
Its had lots of work, has lots of history, is solid but needs some new wood, there's a nice bit of faded paint "patina" on the roof and bonnet and I can't wait to collect it tomorrow.

Belgian Built.Mk2 Preservation Project

A reasonable start to the new week. Fitting the new doorstep on the l/h side, then prepping for the new r/h rear quarter panel.
The last picture shows the dreaded zinc coating in the door aperture where I fitted the new step. It all needs removing for welding. It's about 20thou thick in the picture, ranging to about 60+thou thick in places

Belgian Built.Mk2 Preservation Project

I made a new section for the arch to heel panel closing panel, then fitted the inner sill closing panel this morning.
The new quarter panel is fitted on the l/h side.
While the red oxide was drying in the sill, I repaired the bulkhead. The engine stabiliser bracket was missing and the metal behind was a mess, so I cut a new section to weld in place, then the new bracket.

Have a great weekend

Belgian Built.Mk2 Preservation Project

The new boot floor is all welded in place now and some minor repairs in the back of each rear wheel arch. It took a little longer than usual due to the thickness of the galvanised coating on the car.
You can see the zinc coating in pics 3&4. I've never seen it so thick.
I'm into replacing quarter panels now

Belgian Built.Mk2 Preservation Project

I had hoped to get to this point yesterday, so I called into work for a couple of hours this morning to get there.
The new boot floor is clamped in place and located correctly on the jig.
I thought it odd that this late Mk2 had a spare wheel mounting bracket, I was going to fit the original bracket to the new boot floor, but on closer inspection it has been poorly plug welded in place as can be seen in the last picture, confirming that it should not have one.

That'll do for this week
Have a great weekend
