Disappointing weekend overall for our 45-minute endurance race at Donington Park. We were plagued with electrical issues, causing random misfires throughout the day and resulting in a poor qualifying session, meaning we started P13 on the grid.
We did, however, have around 8 hours between qualifying and the race to try and resolve the problem, so the team set to work checking over all the systems, and we thought we had the problem resolved.
The race : great start, with a few places made up before the first corner. The car was running well and, after 10 laps, I had worked my way up to P6. However, after 20 minuites just before my pit stop, the issues returned and the car felt like it was massively down on power, getting slower every lap.
I made the decision to retire the car before it developed more serious issues. The guys I was chasing down before I retired all finished in podium positions, so there was a very good chance that, if we had completed the race, we would have come home with another trophy.
But these things happen. We’ll find the issues, come back even better, and be ready for the next round at Castle Combe! 🏁
Some on-board overtake footage to follow soon.
