📹 Four in five drivers who come to us after a non-fault accident have no witness and no footage 📊

We analysed 23,987 non-fault accident enquiries in our latest data report (2020-2025) to find out what a witness, dashcam or CCTV is really worth after an accident.

Here's what we found:
✅ With a witness, dashcam or CCTV, we could take forward 71.2% of enquiries. With none of the three, 49.0%, fewer than half
👀 A witness was the strongest single form of evidence, with 75.7% of those enquiries taken forward
🚗 Enquiries backed by dashcam footage alone went forward 70.3% of the time
📉 Yet only 18.3% of drivers had any of the three when they came to us

Why?
Most drivers never expected to need it. Fitting a dashcam may not have crossed their mind, and the shock at the scene makes it easy to drive away without taking witness details or checking whether any nearby CCTV caught it.

What to do about it
👉 Plan for the worst and fit a dashcam. Take the details of anyone who stopped, because witnesses leave within minutes.
Save your own footage straight away, as dashcams record over old clips. Look around for nearby cameras and request the footage, because private CCTV is usually wiped within days.
