Valerie Hewitt:

It is with great sadness we announce that Valerie passed away at home on 24th August 2026. Treasured Mother, beautiful Nanna, and much beloved Auntie, Sister, and Daughter. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

On Thursday 10th September, Valerie will be received into Blackley Crematorium for service and committal at 1.30pm. Valerie's family would like to invite mourners to the Irish Centre after the service. Family flowers only please, donations preferred to The Christie. Mary Upton:

On 15th August aged 91 years and of Alkrington, Mary passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. The adored wife of the late Tom and Keith (now reunited). A loving and devoted Mother of Andrea and Thomas. A treasured and precious Nanna of Chloe and Tom, and much loved Mother in Law of Tony and the late Michele (RIP). A dear Sister of Frances, and the late Terry and Billy (RIP). Also a loved Sister-in-Law and Aunt, she will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all her family and friends.

On Wednesday 2nd September, Mary will be received into the Catholic Church of St Thomas More, Kirkway, Alkrington, for Requiem Mass at 11.00am. Followed by interment at St Joseph's Cemetery, Moston. Bernard Patrick Scott:

Ben, of Chadderton, passed away suddenly but peacefully in hospital surrounded by his loving family and fortified by the Holy Mother Church, on Wednesday 12th August, aged 89 years. The loving and precious Husband of Vera, and a caring and devoted Dad to Rob and Catherine. A Much loved and treasured Grandad of Peter, Hazel, Amelia and Patrick, and a loved Father-in-law to Julie and Martin. A dearly loved Brother, Brother-in- Law and Uncle. Also a dear Great Uncle, and Great, Great Uncle who will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.

On Thursday 3rd September, Ben will be received into the Catholic Church of St Herbert, Broadway, Chadderton for Requiem Mass at 11.45am, and will be laid to rest at Blackley Cemetery. The year 2026 signifies a momentous milestone. It marks 40 years since our owner, Michael Kennedy, opened the doors of his very first funeral home. Everyone here at Greater Manchester Funeral Service would like to congratulate Michael on this incredible achievement.

It was 1986, aged just 22 years old, when Michael started out on his very long journey to become a funeral director in the hope that he could make a difference to the profession. He set out to serve the many bereaved families of Greater Manchester with a professional understanding and a caring attitude.

Firstly, on Oldham Road in Ancoats, then came Heywood, Blackley, Collyhurst, and since 2014 Moston Lane as Greater Manchester Funeral Service. Throughout the years and across the many different locations, one thing has always remained the same. Michael’s compassion and dedication to his families.

Over the past 40 years so many families from the local Manchester area, and from all across the country, have entrusted Michael to look after them during their most difficult moments. I’m sure there are many of you reading this now where that is the case.

Michael would like to say a huge thank you to his two Son’s and all of our team, without them none of this would be possible. And to all the people he has worked closely with over the past 40 years, he is so grateful for all your help and support, and he couldn’t do it without you. Hopefully we can be here to proudly serve the local community for many more years to come.

Brian Coleman:

Brian passed away peacefully at home on 3rd August 2026, surrounded by his loving family, aged 78 years. Much loved Husband of Pauline, and loving Dad of Karen, Paula and Ian. A treasured Grandad and Great Grandad. Beloved Brother of Alan, Ann and Peter, and a Dear Brother-in-law of George. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Tracie passed away peacefully after a long illness fought with great courage on Wednesday 5th of August 2026 age 56 years. Tracie, of Miles plating, a loved and dear Daughter to Alan and the late Helen (now reunited). The loving, caring and precious Mum to Daemon. A loved Mother-in-law of Scott, also a treasured and much loved Sister to Tina and Sister-in-law of Kevin. A much loved Aunty to Kieran and Callum, she will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all her extended family and friends.

On Thursday 20th August, Tracie will be received into Blackley Crematorium for a full service and committal at 2.00 pm. It is with great sadness we announce David passed away peacefully at home on 31st July 2026, surrounded by his loving family, aged 74 years. Now reunited with family and friends who have gone before him. A loving Dad, Grandad and Father-in-law. A treasured Brother, Brother-in-law and Uncle, he will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

Floyd Lanford Hall:

Floyd suddenly passed away at home in Blackley on 25th July, at the age of 61 years. The adored precious and treasured Partner of Jolene, and caring, loving, and treasured Dad to Brody. A devoted Son to the late Beryl (Now reunited). A dearly loved Brother to Alston and Debra, a dear Brother-in-law to Cob, and a loved Son-In-Law to Joan. A much loved Grandad to Alby, and pending newborn baby Arlo. A loved Uncle to Charlie, Cousin and a true friend to many. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his great humour and respectful manner to all who had the privilege of meeting him.

On Friday 28th August, Floyd will be welcomed at The Alliance public house, Rochdale Road for a balloon release at 9.45am. prior to service taking place at Blackley Cemetery Centre Chapel at 11am, followed by interment at Agecroft Cemetery. Richard passed away peacefully in Norlands Care home on 25th July 2026, surrounded by his loving family aged 87 years. Loving Husband of Pat, and devoted and caring Dad of Mark and Susan. Dear Father-in-law of Lisa, and treasured Grandad of Anthony, Joshua and Megan. Precious Great Grandad of Jack, beloved Brother of the late Sean (R.I.P), and a loving Uncle of Cathy, Tony and the late Sean (R.I.P).
