Who doesn’t love Group B rally cars?
We’ll have more than 30 of these icons roaring around the Cholmondeley Castle grounds later this month including Jimmy McRae’s MG Metro 6R4 seen here contesting the RAC Rally back in 1986. That was the end of the road for GpB as the 600bhp monsters were outlawed at the end of the season for being far too fast and far too dangerous. Thirty years on that milestone is being marked at the must-see Dayinsure Wales Rally GB RallyFest on Saturday 29 October. McRae’s iconic MG will be joined by Audi quattros, Ford RS200s, Lancia 037s, Peugeot 205 T!6s and other mega-machines from the era. Plus rally legends Ari Vatanen, Miki Biasion and Harri Toivonen.
Adult tickets cost just £20 in advance, kids aged 15 and under go absolutely FREE. Visit http://www.walesrallygb.com/home.php for tickets.

A wonderful weekend at the Cholmondeley Power & Speed Festival...

As well as doing the commentary on the historic racing motorcycles, I was priviliged to ride this beautiful 1969 350cc Aermacchi Ala D'oro, the pride and joy of motorcycle racer Peter Fleming. Peter has owned the Italian stunner since 1971 and - among other achievements on the bike - he lapped the Isle of Man on it at 100.32mph during the 1991 Manx Grand Prix. Not bad at all for a then 22 year old 350cc single cylinder four stroke.

Anyway, the little Aermacchi was a joy to ride - light, nimble, noisy, fast but friendly. Far too good for me. Thanks, Peter. And thank you to photographer Alan Cox for this snap of me rounding the Cholmondeley hairpin.
