A simple right turn on a lesson became a serious discussion on how we behave on the road.
We find that models really help new drivers to visualise how to deal with junctions.
This exercise developed from the scenario my pupil developed through chatting.
We then went out a practiced turning right into new roads.
When we needed to turn right out of a junction, we encounted on several occasions corner cutting to various degrees of dangerous.

1. Approaching the right turn moving over - can't see anything at the junction
2. Junction looks clear - maybe approaching a bit fast?
3. Fully on the right ready to turn - cyclist comes into view - "where'd they come from?"
4. Brake firmer and turn at the appropriate/correct place
5. By avoiding the corner of the junction, it's a smooth easy turn in
6. Easily passing the cyclist as they take up the "turn right position"
7, 8, 9, 10, all clear, smooth, everyone happy, everyone going on with their journeys and lives
BUT
What if this isn't how you drive?
What if your driving style becomes habit?
Going 10% over, cutting corners to by yourself .001 of a second, not looking properly.

11, you are moving right, to turn right, it's a local junction, you know it so well.
12. HABIT kicks in, you turn early, the driverside A pillar covers parts of the junction.
But it's OK, you've done this many times before at many different junctions.
Nothing ever happens

13. THUD, the sound of metal, plastic and then a person hitting your bonnet.
You brake so hard it feels like your feet are going though the floor.
But
It's too late.

You have changed someone's life forever

I only have a cyclist model, it could easily be a biker, horse rider, e.scooter, another car, van, or even a lorry.

Take junctions correctly, respect other road users, it really isn't worth it.
