You can now book a theory test using the Signly British Sign Language (BSL) translation service 🎉

We want our services to be accessible to everyone. Our vision is for all users to be able to independently book a theory test and give candidates the confidence to do their best by offering more accessible services and support.

Since the new service was introduced in September 2021, we’ve been making continuous improvements to the booking service to help you book your test.

As part of this work, we’ve launched a BSL online translation service for when you book a theory test on GOV.UK. The service allows users to select written paragraphs to be translated into BSL videos – the first of its kind to be introduced across government.

To make the theory test service more accessible we’ve also made other changes including:

- reminder notifications for uploading documents
- scanning identity documents

Adding BSL to the theory booking test was a collaboration with Kainos.

Driving test fraudster caught and convicted. 🚨

Between November 2021 and June 2023, Qounain Khan travelled across the country impersonating learner drivers to take their driving theory test - putting individuals at risk and trying to cheat the system.

Khan originally faced 32 charges of fraud. 8 charges were withdrawn but he pleaded guilty to the remaining 24 serious offences and has now been convicted.

Thanks to the our teams that work day in day out, offenders like these can be brought to justice.

If you’re a cyclist, the Highway Code is important to you too.

It contains valuable info on how to keep yourself and other road users safe whilst out, such as where you should be in lanes.

It recommends that people cycling should proceed as if they were driving a vehicle where there are no designated cyclist facilities.

That means:

🛣️ you should take the primary position - in the centre of your chosen lane - on quiet roads or streets, slow-moving traffic, or at the approach to junctions or road narrowings

🛣️ take the secondary position (at least 0.5 metres from the kerb edge) - to the left, allowing cars to overtake where it is safe - on busy roads where the traffic is moving faster than you

⬅️ you should give way to pedestrians when turning into a side road

⚪ 🔴 at night your bike MUST have white front and red rear lights lit and be fitted with a red rear reflector

🚦 you must obey all traffic signs and signals as if you were any other vehicle

We are aware of misleading articles claiming the driving theory test is ‘’changing’’ in September 2025.

There are currently no plans to bring in any such changes to the driving theory test.

For the latest updates on the driving theory test, please visit GOV.UK as the only official source of information.

What’s on your driving playlist? 🎵

Whether it’s metal, Motown, funk or something more mainstream – make sure it’s not distracting you.

Rule 148 of the states that safe driving and riding needs concentration.

Avoid distractions when driving or riding such as loud music (this may mask other sounds).

Save the tunes for your next , and drive safely.

Do you know what a PUFFIN CROSSING is? 📋🚗

A place where pedestrians can safely cross a busy road. Puffin crossings are controlled by traffic lights. They also have a sensor to detect when pedestrians are on the crossing. This can delay the green light to give people extra time to finish crossing.

More than 1,500 car driving tests a week go to waste. 📝

That’s the work of over 40 driving examiners.

Some are lost because the person that booked it didn’t show up.

❌ If you can’t make your test, cancel it.

✅ Somebody else might be able to use it, even at short notice. https://www.gov.uk/cancel-driving-test
