It is with great sadness that we share with you the news that Christine Peek passed away at home on Friday 31st March.

She was taken ill on Christmas Day and quickly diagnosed as having a brain tumour which, in Christine's inimitable style, she immediately nicknamed "Frank".

Despite the valiant efforts of the surgeons at Addenbrookes and the staff at our local hospitals, this was always one fight that Christine was never going to win. Even in that knowledge, she remained calm, dignified and alert.

Many of you reading this will remember Christine hosting you when you attended our Driver CPC courses where she ensured everyone was welcome and well fed! Many will have met her at conferences and seminars around the country. Many, many more will have spoken to her on the telephone as she arranged your own or your loved ones' driving lessons and tests. Those who met her, in whatever capacity, will miss her.

Her funeral will take place at 11:00 on 28th April 2023 at St. Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, NR32 4JD.

Tomorrow, 6th July 2020, sees the return of the ability to book DVSA tests for both theory and practical. Actual driving tests for vocational entitlements (Car & Trailer, LGV, PCV) begin on 13th July with car testing recommencing on 22nd July.

There will be several COVID-19 procedures to follow and, as we have become used to, all appointments and arrangements are subject to change with little or even no notice.

For those of you who had their tests cancelled as the lockdown began, we are already looking at our agendas and planning to get you back behind the wheel as soon as possible. We will be contacting you to check your availability over the next few days!

For those of you looking to continue your Driver CPC training, we will be recommencing DCPC courses for both LGV and PCV drivers from the first week in September.

If you already have a Driver Qualification Card (DQC) then we remind you that the validity of DQCs with expiry dates from 1 February 2020 to 31 August 2020 has been extended by seven months. If the expiry date on your card is in this period, you should add seven months to that date to calculate the new expiry date.

We hope that this message finds you and your families safe and sound in these unusual times!

Recent enquires have requested details of future Driver CPC courses that we may be holding. During the period of the COVID-19 “lockdown” we ceased delivering our DCPC training as we had to respect the conditions laid out by the government. We also took the decision of not offering on-line training for a variety of reasons, one of which was we felt that such a means of delivery prevented us being able to tailor the course in real-time so as to address the attendees needs and concerns.

However, we feel that with the latest easing of those conditions, we feel that we should soon be able to recommence training at our venue in Beccles. Obviously, we will be ensuring that we adhere to any legislation that may be in force at any given time and we will be ensuring everyone’s safety is our first priority.

So, we ask for your input. Could you please consider the following questions and let us know your answers?

1. Would you be prepared, after the middle of June, to attend Driver CPC courses held at Barsham Rigg?

2. Would you prefer us to continue with our catering arrangements (respecting any Covid-19 restrictions) or would you prefer to bring your own refreshments?

3. If you are an employer, would you be sending more than one driver on any given date?

4. If you are an employer, would you consider block-booking a whole day so that it was only your drivers attending?

Please note, whilst we will do our best to meet your needs, we are not in a position to run under-subscribed courses, therefore we reserve the right to cancel or amend courses as dictated by the response we receive.

So, Driving tests are cancelled for the rest of the week and a decision on future tests awaited! Many folk have been stood down as businesses go into limbo, which means many folk with more time on their hands.

Add to that the fact that there is an increasing demand for drivers (many of whom are now classed as "key workers") during the current situation and will be more so in the immediate recovery phase, then perhaps we can use this opportunity to prepare ourselves for the future by continuing our driver-training? Prepare ourselves fully for testing?

We at Peeks will remain open and be conducting driving lessons and driver training as usual for car, car & trailer, LGV and PCV. All our instructors are briefed and prepared for the additional guidelines regarding hygiene and personal health. All our vehicles are sanitised at the start of the day and between each pupil.

So, if you would like to make use of any extra time that you have, please give us a call and we will show this Covid-19 that we will not give in!
