🚐 Another VW T4 1.9TD – one we absolutely love tuning!

Some people aren’t fans of these old 1.9TDs, but I think when they’re set up and tuned correctly, they’re a cracking van. 👌

Especially with the 5th gear mod as well!

This one came in feeling underpowered, and the dyno confirmed it.

From stock, we’d normally expect around 65–68 bhp, but this one managed just:

❌ 61 bhp & 123 Nm

It looks like someone had been having a play before us… unfortunately, they’d turned things the wrong way. 😬

So we got everything set up properly – correct idle, fuelling dialled in and no smoke.

The final result:

✅ 85 bhp & 174 Nm

That’s a massive 39.3% increase in power and 41.5% increase in torque over how it arrived. 💪

No silly smoke. No bodges. Just a properly set-up and tuned T4 that now drives like it should.

There’s plenty of life in these old 1.9TDs yet! 😎

VW T4 1.9TD — Proper Old-School Tune Up 💪

This VW T4 1.9TD came in to us all the way from Gloucestershire for our tune up service.

These are usually around 68bhp as standard, but this one’s a bit of a gem — one owner since it was just 12 months old. You don’t see that every day. 👌

After getting it set up properly and making a few tweaks, we finished with a nice clean result:

✅ 94bhp
✅ 183Nm
✅ Smoke-free
✅ Correct idle

Not bad at all for a classic T4 workhorse. More go, no drama, and still behaving exactly as it should. 😎

This top-spec VW T6.1 California Ocean came to us for a proper setup — and what a lovely camper it is.

It’s the 150bhp DSG model, in for:

Another VW T4 2.5TDI in for proper tuning 💪

This one came to us last week for a health check, and let’s just say… it was making all the smoke. 😅

We found 51mg being injected, with around 8mg heading straight out the exhaust. Huge plumes of smoke yet again — why some “tuners” think that’s acceptable, we’ll never know.

Yes, it made decent numbers at 149bhp and 342Nm, but it had enough smoke to turn day into night. 🌚💨

So, we took it back to stock, set it up properly, and the result?

✅ 146bhp
✅ 319Nm
✅ Smoke-free
✅ Xman injectors doing the job right

Power is great. But power done properly is better. 🤩👍

VW T4 2.5TDI in with us at PP Tuning 🚐💨

This one rolled in already mapped…
and erm… we’re not sure trying to block out the sun with black smoke counts as “tuned” 😂

On the dyno it made:

139bhp
359Nm spiked torque
Dense black smoke for days

Spec-wise, it had a set of Xman injectors and our full 2.5-inch turbo-back mandrel-bent stainless exhaust system — no reductions, no nasty bends, just proper flow.

So, first job: back to stock ✅
Then we set the actuator up correctly and tuned it properly.

Final result:

157bhp
370Nm torque
Much cleaner delivery across the rev range
No smoke 😮‍💨

And the best bit? The customer reported back saying it drives so, so much better.

Power is great, but usable power with clean torque delivery is what makes these old T4s feel properly transformed 👌

Hmm 🤔 this has been apparently correctly tuned lmao.
Pump timing is out (115) turbo actuator been wound the wrong way!! Shocking dyno graph in comments. This is not acceptable.

This 2002 VW T4 2.5 TDI 88bhp came in for the full PP Tuning treatment:

🔧 PP Tuning stainless steel exhaust
💻 Pendle Performance remap
📊 Maha rolling road tuning

First job was the exhaust — about five minutes on the ramp and that was sorted. 😎

Then it was onto the Maha to see what nearly a quarter of a million miles had done to this old T4…

Before:
➡️ 94 bhp
➡️ 209 Nm

After:
🚀 123 bhp
💪 274 Nm

That’s a gain of 29 bhp and 65 Nm of torque.

But it’s not just about chasing a big number.

✅ No smoke
✅ Beautiful torque delivery
✅ Smooth power right across the rev range

At 247,000 miles, this old bus certainly isn’t ready for retirement yet! 😂
