Hello everyone. It's been a long time since we've posted anything here but the committee has been busy working away in the background. All the work has unfortunately come to nothing. With rising costs of room hire and having been paying storage for the club for the past few years, the club has been left financially unable to continue, meaning the time has come for Quorn Slot Car Club to close its doors permanently.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank friends, family and supporters of the club and of course the members themselves for the decades of enjoyment the club and track has provided and for the special bonds it has created.

As we start the awful process of disbanding the club, if anyone feels they have a home for the club track or the smaller portabke track please drop us a message and we will see if we can arrange something.

This is not a message any of us wanted to have to post but it is unfortunately a sign of the times. Thank you again for all your support.

Well it's been a busy couple of weeks for members of QSCC who have taken part in 2 endurance races at local clubs.

Firstly, QSCC was invited to attend the North Staffs Slot
Car Club 12 hour race, which ran over 2 days with six hours race time each day. The cars were to be fairly standard so close racing was going to be the order of the day.

Teams were given 2 sets of tyres to complete the race, a set of Slot It f22 soft tyres and a set of n18 hard tyres.

Running the less favorable f22 tyre, the Quorn team of Richard, Steve and Martin set about causing an upset and in the first hour, which was all about getting they tyres bedded in, things were looking to be very close. That was until Martin took the second stint and stormed off at the front, building a massive lead. Over the next few hours the team of three stormed away, ending the first 6 hours with a 60 lap lead!

As the second day and the next 6 hours got ready for the off, the other 5 teams (made up of North Staffs, Rockingham, South Manchester, Wolves and Truespeed) were wondering what they could do to stop Quorn.

You may remember me saying the teams were handed a soft set and a hard set of tyres. At the end of the first 6 hours, Quorn had used up the soft tyres and had to switch to the harder compound, which they couldn't get to work with the car and lap times dropped giving the other teams hope.

As hour 8 approached, Quorn's car ground to a halt with nothing obvious as to the cause. A new set of braids were fitted which seemed to cure the problem, but their lead had been demolished. By now, Rockingham led and the guys were in a battle for second with the home team.

As the race went on, the order settled down and the team had to settle for third - a great result but for what could have been. A small victory for Quorn was that QSCC member Nick was on loan to the race winning Rockingham team!

The second race sent members to Rockingham Slot Car Club for the 6 hour Digital GT3 race. For this shorter race the team split into 2 - Steve and Richard running their trusty and speedy Mclaren and Martin and Nick being joined by club friend Nik Kerswel, who whre debuting their Ferrari 458.

Saturday practice went well and the 2 Quorn teams topped the time sheets both cars running well and reliable.

Sunday morning qualfying was a disrupted affair with some track power problems, however Martin set a quick time with Steve close behind in second. Once the problems were rectified it gave the teams 15 minutes to improve their times on a now much quicker track.

A slight issue kept Martin in the pits and he made it back out with around 3 minutes left but could only manage 5th.

After an aborted start (in which Martin had a comfortable lead) the race restarted with Martin again making a cracking start and building a comfortable lead. Richard on the other hand in his own words got beat up at the start and dropped a few laps off the pace.

As the race settled in Martin had handed over to Nik who was coming to the end of his stint when he was caught up in a big crash which smashed the front of the car and pulled off a front wheel. A quick repair got the car back out albeit it with slight handling issues. The accident had lost the team around 20 laps and a badly damaged car to nurse for the next 4 hours.

In the other team, Richard had handed over to Steve who made short work of the two leading teams of Rockingham and Nick and Martin's TWR team. Within half an hour Steve was into the lead and pulling away.

The next few hours went by and Steve and Richard continued to build a lead as TWR and Rockingham battled over second place. Into the final hour it was a straight fight between the two teams both trading places and losing time in traffic, finally resulting in Rockingham taking the second spot.

Steve and Richard romped home with a massive 40 lap lead - a trouble free run and quick consistant driving giving the guys a much deserved win.

Sorry for the lack of updates over the weekend but with such a close and intense battle between ourselves, Olifer, and Demon Slot we where a little pre occupied!
We had a good run the whole weekend, the first car on track in practice, quickest in class in all of the practice sessions only stumbling in qualifying where we ended up third.
The race started well for us with Rich taking the start and dodging a lot of traffic to jump straight to the lead of class. He stretched the lead and we ended the first hour with around a 12 lap lead in class.
Up second was Nick and a small firmware issue that had showed itself in practice came back, progressively got worse and by the end of hour 2 we were third - 28 laps from the lead!
Third up was Steve who the issue hadn't affected as much so we sent him out and a steady stint helped with a few issues for others closed us back in.
In the meantime in the pits Nick and Martin got their heads together to try to resolve the issue which turned out to be a loss of connection which sent the car flying off track with no braking ability.
We spoke with Maurizio, the boss of Slot It, who suggested that we go back to a older version of firmware as another team who had similar problems had tried this and it seemed to work. The only problem with doing this was it would cost us around three minutes and was not guaranteed to work. We came to the decision that we had to stop and try this to stand any chance in the race.
Hour four came and Martin was up he had not been affected at all by the issue so got his head down and started to make progress to the front two. Forty minutes into his stint we got the call from Maurizio that he was ready so Martin pitted and the update began, a quick tyre change while the controller was updating would save us a little time but put our pit strategy a little out of sync.
Hour five saw Will take to the track and a steady stint saw him pull the gap down by a couple of laps leaving us around eight laps from the lead.
As hour six approached the decision was made that Nick would go next to see if the firmware issue had been resolved, if not he would be taken off and probably not drive again. As soon as he went out it was clear straight away the issue had been resolved so with a sigh of relief we settled into the race.
At the start of hour seven Richard took over the car with a 4 lap lead! The next few hours clicked by and when morning broke, the team had a 28 lap lead in class and was lying forth overall an in a battle with the Italian teams of Posillipo and BB slot Vikings.
At around half past six and again with Nick driving after some forceful lappery from the race leading Ford GT, the car was sent into the barriers. Once retrived, the car would not move. The lighting chip had been knocked out of postiton and had wedged itself in the rear wheel. Some quick work from Martin and Steve saw the car back out but after a couple of laps the car slowed to a crawl. The lighting chip had come loose again and the wire had wrapped itself around the back axel, we also had a cracked front screw post which we made a quick fix to and the car was sent back out. It was clear from the big hit the car's handling was off and after another big hit the second screw post broke so we switched to our spare body but we had dropped to third and were around 15 laps from the lead too.
Rich was then sent out and with the car handling much better he set about hauling the leaders in but at the end of his stint he had only managed to claw back two laps. After a hectic few hours we had the wind knocked out of our sails but after a verbal slap we new what we had to do and set about trying to close the gap.

At around lunch time the Olifer car that had swapped to a new body after destroying their first started to have light issues which they couldnt seem to resolve. We managed to catch and pass Olifer and build up a handy 80 lap lead. By this point class leaders were Demon Slot and had really hit their stride. All we could do was keep the pressure on and hope for them to hit issues.
That never came and with a deteriorating gear we nursed the car home to sixth overall and second in class.

A big thanks to Garry and Alex who again put on a cracking event and to Phil, Ash,Craig and Lewis for a brilliant race and as our marshaling neighbours plenty of laughs and banter along the way.
