A few decades of working together, three Gobstoppers and plenty of engineering along the way!

We recently caught up with Olly and Matt (or the ‘Nutty Professor’, as Olly calls him!) from Roger Clark Motorsport (RCM). Matt is the engineering brains behind the operation, constantly pushing the boundaries and finding new ways to make the cars go even faster!

The interview starts with a bit of history behind RCM and the engineering, before diving into our long-standing relationship and GoodFabs’ involvement in the exhaust systems for Gobstopper 1, 2 and 3.

A little warning before you press play… 🔊 Expect some seriously loud engines as the Gobstoppers take on various courses, including a run at Goodwood!

We’ll also be sharing a closer look at the engineering and rebuild of the Gobstopper 3 exhaust on an upcoming Spotlight page on our website.

There are some exciting things to come with RCM, and we’re really pleased to be involved in this latest project.

From design to finished heat shielding 🔥

It’s always interesting to see how a component develops through the manufacturing process.

Starting with the design, these individual shapes are press formed to create the required geometry, ready to be trimmed and brought together.

Fast forward ➡️ and those individual formed sections become the finished heat shield - a close-fitting assembly designed to provide thermal protection around the component.

A great example of how design, forming and skilled fabrication come together in the final product.

Complex geometry, precision thin-wall fabrication and some seriously impressive TIG welding - a great showcase of the craftsmanship within our fabrication team.

A little behind the scenes of our heat shielding department 👀

Here you can see the team spot welding the outer skin of a bespoke heat shield — one of the many stages involved in producing lightweight, high-performance thermal protection.

From individual components through to finished assemblies, it’s all done in-house at GoodFabs.

Bend it. Reverse it 🔄

A look at a large-diameter (3.5 inches) aerospace bend!

The tooling for this one was substantial enough to require the hoist to load it onto the machine, ready for a US customer requirement 🇺🇸✈️

Current tube bending lead times: 3–4 weeks.
