Important Update: New Driving Test Booking Rules 🚗
​I have some great news regarding how driving tests are booked. Starting today, May 12th, the system is moving to a "self-service only" model to make things fairer for everyone.
​What you need to know:
​You’re in control: From now on, you are the only person who can book, change, or swap your driving test.
​No more resellers: Third-party websites have been charging anywhere from £300 to £500 for early slots. These new rules are designed to shut those services down and stop people from being overcharged.
​Instructor updates: Even as an instructor, I can no longer book or manage tests for my students through the OBS system. This ensures that every learner has the same fair shot at the available dates.
​This is a long-overdue change that should make the process much more transparent and affordable for all of us. Going forward, please make sure to handle all your bookings directly through the official site.

Starting **31 March 2026**

Big changes from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency that every learner driver needs to know.

🚨 Learner drivers in the UK — this is important!

New rules from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency mean:

❌ You can’t keep changing your test date
📅 From **31 March 2026** you only get **2 changes**

And from **12 May 2026** only **learners can book or change their driving test**.

So make sure you **book when you're actually ready**.

🚗 Top Driving Test Fails 2025 – Are You Making These Mistakes?

Every year, thousands of learners miss out on passing their driving test due to the same avoidable faults.

The most common reasons for failing include:

🔎 Observations at Junctions – Not judging speed or looking properly before pulling out.
🪞 Mirror Use – Not checking mirrors before changing speed or direction.
👀 Moving Off Safely – Forgetting vital blind spot (360°) checks.
↪️ Right-Hand Turns – Poor positioning or cutting corners at roundabouts.
🛞 Steering Control – Mounting the kerb or losing control when manoeuvring.

The good news? These are all fixable with the right training and awareness.

📢 Important Update: Practical Driving Test Booking Rules Are Changing

From 31 March 2026, new limits will apply to how many times a practical car driving test booking can be changed.

🚗 What’s changing?
Learner drivers and Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs) will be able to change a driving test booking up to 2 times only.

🔄 A change includes:

Changing the date or time

Changing the test centre

Swapping an appointment with another learner

👨‍🏫 Important for ADIs:
Please make sure your pupils only book their test when they are truly ready. Swapping tests between pupils will count towards the 2-change limit.
You can also set your availability to prevent pupils from booking tests at times that don’t work for you.

👉 Good to know:
When this rule comes into force, everyone with a driving test already booked will start with 2 changes available, no matter how many changes they’ve made in the past.

This update follows a consultation aimed at improving the driving test booking system.
