Sundowners just taste better on a boat. đŸč

The sails are down. The day’s swimming gear is drying on the rail. Everyone is a little sun-kissed, a little salty and completely relaxed.

A cold drink. A glowing horizon. Nowhere else you need to be.

We could get used to evenings like these.

Now that the A-level results are in, there’s no better way to congratulate your teenagers than with a gentle week or two sailing around the Greek Islands.

Days spent sailing and swimming, followed by evenings in local Greek tavernas, should certainly help to clear a few foggy brains!

We still have a few bits and bobs available before September:

â›” The Whole Ionian fortnight
Departing this coming weekend, with two Beneteau 323s and one Beneteau 361 still available with some very special offers, including flights.

â›” The Saronic Islands
This coming weekend is fully booked, but we have a Beneteau 331 available for the following departure, flying on 30th August. It’s essentially the first two weeks of September and a lovely way to stretch out the summer.

â›” One-week South Ionian flotilla
Almost everything is full until the end of September, but we’ve had a couple of cancellations on our one-week South Ionian flotilla.

â›” October flotilla sailing
Can’t get away at the last minute? October is a wonderful time to sail in Greece, with warm days, quieter harbours and a more relaxed pace.

â›” RYA sailing courses
Our RYA training yachts are busy until the end of October, so the team is now turning its attention to next year. If learning to sail or gaining your next qualification is on your list, now is a good time to start planning.

As we sink into the school summer holidays, we want to say a huge thank you to all our incredible Lead Crews.

You know the drill. It’s an epic job—but most certainly not an easy one.

They take responsibility for the whole flotilla while staying calm under pressure. They plan routes, monitor the weather, adapt when conditions change and somehow keep smiling through it all.

They arrange group meals and punch parties, answer endless questions, find time for beach Olympics—and wear it all with impressive style.

So, to all our brilliant Lead Crews: thank you. We couldn’t do it without you!

Making friends as an adult can feel oddly difficult.

Everyone is busy. Everyone has somewhere else to be. And far too often, everyone is looking at a screen.

On flotilla, friendships seem to happen without anyone really trying.

You share bays, meals, punch parties, stories and small challenges. You catch each other’s lines, help with anchors and laugh together when things don’t go entirely to plan — like your anchor dragging in Fiskardo three times.

Over two weeks, the conversations go a little deeper. You move beyond polite introductions and start developing the in-jokes, stories and shared memories that make it feel as though you’ve known one another for far longer.

People who were complete strangers on day one are now discussing which two-week flotilla they should do together next year.

And perhaps that’s one of the hardest parts of a sailing holiday to explain until you’ve experienced it.
You don’t only come home with memories of the places you visited.

Sometimes, you come home with entirely new people in your life.

Turquoise seas, pine-covered hills and anchorages that look as though they’ve been lifted straight from Mamma Mia.

The Sporades are made for sailors who enjoy going a little further. Regular summer Meltemi winds create some brilliant sailing, with routes that can take you through Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonnisos, and onwards towards quieter islands such as Kira Panagia and Peristera.

There are lively harbours and tavernas along the way, but also wonderfully remote stretches where the water is clear, the hills are green and there is very little between you and the horizon.

It’s hard to think about emails and deadlines when you’re watching the sails fill, the children are looking out for the next bay and your biggest decision is where to stop for lunch.

The Sporades give families the chance to properly disappear into the experience together. Different scenery every day, plenty to learn and a new story waiting around each headland.

What comes after the Ionian?

Already sailed the Ionian and wondering where to go next?

The Saronic Islands feel like a natural next step. The sailing days can be slightly longer, the breeze a little steadier and the landscape noticeably different, but you still have everything that makes a flotilla holiday so good: daily swim stops, little harbours, long dinners and a new place to explore every day.

It’s a brilliant area for families who have found their feet in the Ionian and are ready to sail a little further, learn a little more and discover another side of Greece together.

Children can get involved with the sailing, take a turn at the wheel and help choose the day’s lunch stop. Meanwhile, the adults get the rare chance to properly switch off from work, household jobs and the endless logistics of normal family life.

You come home with better sailing skills, but also a collection of shared stories that will be repeated around the dinner table for years.
