This didn’t turn out to be a simple misfire.

VW Tiguan came in running rough with poor idle and no power.

Coils and plugs? All fine.

So, we dug deeper.

Found a faulty PCV valve. Replaced it. Still not right.

Ran a smoke test and found pressure escaping near the gearbox.

That led us to the real issue: a blown rear main seal caused by the PCV fault.

Both repaired properly. Engine now running smooth again.

This is why overheating isn’t always what it seems.

This Volkswagen came in with intermittent overheating - no obvious coolant loss, nothing major flagged.

The issue?

A small sleeve sitting in the wrong place near the water pump, restricting flow.

While we were there, we replaced the timing belt too, still in decent condition, but not worth the risk.

It’s rarely just about what you see. It’s about knowing where to look.

Bulge → immediate risk
Uneven wear → alignment issue
Centre wear → overinflation
Cracks → ageing rubber
