Hello Alan Carr

30/06/2026

Great first couple of days at my new job with the RNLI. Just beginning the journey of becoming a Lifeboat Trainer - one during which hard lessons (like how to tighten a crotch strap without setting the lifejacket off) must be learned.

Life afloat since returning from Antarctica. Been enjoying working more occasionally and on projects and in places that truly interest or challenge me, something I hope to continue in the months ahead.

Beautiful evening on the water towing a boat up to Richmond, even if it took well over four hours and wasn’t warm for the last three!

Great to be back out on the River Thames teaching. It was getting a bit weird having two months without a properly structured work day!

449 days in Antarctica - done! My time at Rothera has come to an end, after what has felt simultaneously like no time at all, and an absolute marathon. Although I was pretty much in the same place for fifteen straight months, I feel like I’ve been on an incredible journey, both personally and professionally!

I’m travelling through South America for the next few weeks, but aim to be back in the UK in just under a month.

I’m going to try and get some of the photos I never got round to posting uploaded, but after that it’ll be the end of the Antarctic content for at least a little while…
