Sometimes a cheaper alternative ends up being a more expensive mistake .

Van with poor quality remap i had in recently.

The owner of van had a non start situation and had reached 0.

They were directed to me by another garage.
After explaining I was really busy they explained they may need recovery I sent a link to a YouTube video I made on how to start.

Few weeks passed and I got a message can I look at engine warning.

So question was asked did you solve ad blue issue or is that still needed so I know time to allocate.

That’s been sorted had ad blue delete 🤨🙄🙈

So after explaining it’s likely the remap and it would be best asking person who applied file to look again.

Eventually booking is made for assessment and what i found is a poor quality solution applied😫

No fault codes showing under vehicle specific but is ad blue fault in generic obd.🤮

So explaining to owner that it’s poor quality solution and needs who ever mapped it to solve the issues.

For the remapping company to then tell owner they have done solution properly for my reply to be proof is there the light is on and fault code in generic obd 🤔🫣🫠🤯

So now vehicle owner has the extra cost of my assessment and now all the faffing back and forth waiting to see if the mapping company can actually get to a solution.

Poor quality remaps as people’s attempts to turn off ad blue is becoming more and more of a problem.

When a vehicle comes in with a diy obd scanner still in the car ..
This is like going into the doctors after dosing up on pain killers trying to explain where the pain is, even though you can’t feel it now.
Deleting codes to get it out of limp mode may seem like a good idea but it’s not. You’re removing potential codes that may take a long test drive at certain conditions to reappear. You’re removing the data that tells us what the conditions are that makes them appear. You’re taking away evidence that allows us to diagnose correctly your fault. Without a return visit.
Basically you’re making our jobs harder then needed. And then get annoyed when the light reappears.
Stop . Please for all the techs out there who are trying to do things right. Stop.
