On Sunday night approx 4.45pm I was informed by numerous neighbours & local customers that the garage was on fire.
When I arrived Hoe St was closed off and MD Motors was majorly on fire.
There were, I'm told, 70 fire fighters in attendance, the Rose & Crown Pub had been evacuated as were our neighbours. It was a devastating scene.
Fire services and Police were in attendance for about 24 hours, it was only then that we were allowed access to see that the building and the workshop had been completely destroyed.
Scenes like that I have never experienced in my life.
Those of you that know me know that MD Motors has been my life for 39 years. There was huge disruption to businesses and local residents on the Sunday night. I apologise for this. I know all of you affected would have suffered a major lull in takings.
I thank the fire crews and Police for their bravery.
Thank you to all my friends at the Rose & Crown pub, Delice and other local shops for their help. I also thank Stella Creasy who is my friend and customer for standing with us on the night.
I cant even begin to explain the streams of people that have come to the Garage this week, to offer their condolences and support. Adults and children shared tears with us, the kind words of encouragement and empathy have been overwhelming. Local residents have been sending us teas, coffees, food & cake. The texts phone calls support on social media is all very humbling for me.
Im sorry for any inconvenience caused but if there is problems with your cars please do still call us and we will try and help.
Ive been in Walthamstow all my life and proud of that but above all the past few days have proved we are a community in the true sense of the word.
Thank you,
Mick Doukanaris.
