One mistake on your driving test does not automatically mean you’ve failed. πŸš—
A lot of learners make one small error and immediately think:
β€œThat’s it. I’ve failed.”
But the best thing you can do is keep going.
If something goes wrong:
πŸ‘‰ Stay focused
πŸ‘‰ Recover safely
πŸ‘‰ Keep observing
πŸ‘‰ Continue making safe decisions
Don’t let one mistake affect the rest of your drive.

Would you spot this zebra crossing hazard early enough on your driving test? πŸ‘€πŸš—
Put your examiner hat on. A learner driver is approaching a zebra crossing while a pedestrian waits near the edge.
The DVSA driving test looks for early hazard recognition: πŸ‘€ See it early: Scan zebra crossings well before arriving. πŸš— Ease off: Reduce speed without sudden braking. 🧠 Check mirrors: Know what's behind you before slowing down. πŸ›‘ Stop smoothly: Give the pedestrian plenty of time to cross safely.
Waiting until the last second forces hard braking, which can turn a routine stop into a serious fault.
Share this with someone taking their driving test soon!

Learner-driver brain at a roundabout: 47 thoughts in about 3 seconds. πŸ˜‚
β€œDo I go?”
β€œIs that my exit?”
β€œWas he indicating?”
β€œWhy is everyone moving?!”
Meanwhile, your instructor is usually thinking something much simpler:
πŸ‘€ Observe
πŸš— Slow down
➑️ Look right
⏳ Wait for a safe opportunity
βœ… Go when it’s safe
Then you get through the roundabout and realise:
β€œOh… that actually wasn’t that bad.” πŸ˜…
Learning to drive can feel much harder when your brain is trying to process everything at once.
The more experience you build, the easier it becomes to recognise the situation, slow things down mentally and make a safe decision.
πŸ’¬ Learners: what makes you overthink the most, roundabouts, junctions, parking or meeting traffic?

Got a driving test coming up? πŸš—

The evening before your practical test should be about getting organised, not panicking.

A simple checklist can remove a lot of unnecessary stress.

Before tomorrow:

βœ… Confirm your test centre and journey
βœ… Put your driving licence somewhere safe
βœ… Prepare glasses/contact lenses if you use them
βœ… Review your most important driving routines
βœ… Get your clothes and essentials ready
βœ… Set your alarm and give yourself enough time
βœ… Get some proper rest

And remember:

Your test does not require a perfect drive.

It requires you to demonstrate that you can drive safely and make appropriate decisions.

πŸ“Œ Save this checklist.

πŸ“² Share it with a learner who has their test booked.

Mini-roundabouts are easy to underestimate. πŸ”„πŸš—
Because the centre is often only painted on the road, some drivers treat it as though they can simply drive straight across it.
For learner drivers, build this routine instead:
πŸ‘€ Observe the signs, markings and traffic
πŸš— Reduce your speed and stay in control
➑️ Position correctly for where you are going
πŸ”„ Follow the roundabout rather than cutting across the centre
βœ… Enter when it is safe
Also pay attention to vehicles approaching from your right and any signs or road markings controlling priority.
The aim is not to rush through the mini-roundabout.
The aim is to read the situation early and make a controlled decision.
πŸ“Œ Save this before your next lesson.
πŸ“² Share it with someone currently learning to drive.

Driving safely isn’t only about controlling the car.
It’s also about understanding the language of the road. πŸš¦πŸš—
Signs, road markings, bus-lane restrictions, arrows and yellow box junctions are giving you instructions long before you reach them.
If you notice them too late, you may:
⚠️ enter a restricted lane
⚠️ get caught inside a box junction
⚠️ miss an important instruction
⚠️ make an avoidable driving-test mistake
Bus-lane and moving-traffic contraventions can result in Penalty Charge Notices, and authorities can use camera enforcement for offences including bus lanes and prohibited box-junction stops.
The better habit is:
See it β†’ Understand it β†’ Respond early.
Learner drivers, save this before your next lesson.
Parents helping someone learn to drive, ask them to explain the next road sign or marking they see rather than simply telling them what to do.
πŸ“² Share this with someone learning to drive.

Sneda was determined to give it her all and finally get her driving licence, no more messing about! She was matched with instructor Shafi for brush-up lessons before her driving test at Barnet on 4 August.

Her hard work and determination paid off, she passed! Congratulations, Sneda, on a fantastic result on this glorious day, and well done to instructor Shafi for helping her achieve her goal. πŸš—πŸŽ‰

Joel is emigrating to Australia in October and planned his driving journey extremely well. He first contacted LDriv at the end of January, knowing he needed to pass both his theory and practical driving tests while working around extensive travel plans throughout the year.

Yolanda planned his full course, provided theory support, arranged his driving lessons with instructor Jusna, and secured his practical test at Wanstead.

Joel passed his theory test on his first attempt and completed his driving course between his travels. When the DVSA moved his practical test from 1 July to 23 July, he remained focused, and achieved a fantastic first-time pass!

Joel will now be moving to Australia with his full UK driving licence. Congratulations, Joel, and well done to Jusna for the excellent instruction and support!
