⚡️ EV Owners Club: January 2026 Update! ⚡️
Happy New Year, everyone! It’s been a massive start to 2026 for the UK electric vehicle scene. Whether you’re a long-term owner or just took delivery of your first EV during the December rush, there’s plenty of news to get stuck into this week.
📈 Milestone Alert: One in Three Go Electric!
The latest industry data is in, and it’s a record-breaker. In December 2025, Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) accounted for a staggering 32.7% of all new car registrations in the UK.
That means we’ve officially hit the government’s 2026 target of 33% before the year even properly started! With over 160 EV models now available in the UK, it’s never been easier to find the right fit for your driveway.
💰 New 2026 Grants & Incentives
The government has just announced a major update to the Electric Car Grant for 2026 to keep the momentum going:
The Two-Tier Grant: You can now get up to £3,750 off a new EV if the manufacturer meets strict sustainability targets (like the new Renault 5 E-Tech or the MINI Countryman Electric).
Luxury Tax Relief: Great news for those looking at premium models—the "Expensive Car Supplement" threshold has been raised from £40k to £50,000. If your car is priced at £48k, you’re now saving about £425 a year in road tax compared to last year.
The "Renter’s Rescue": For those without a driveway, the residential grant for cross-pavement "gullies" is now live, helping renters and flat-owners install chargers for up to 75% off (max £350).
🚗 What’s Landing in Showrooms Soon?
Keep an eye out for these highly anticipated models hitting UK roads later this year:
Tesla Model 2: The "affordable" Tesla (rumoured under £25k) is the one everyone is talking about for late 2026.
Kia EV5: A family-sized SUV with a projected range of over 300 miles.
VW ID. 2all: The spiritual electric successor to the Polo—compact, practical, and expected to start around £22,000.
📱 App Tip of the Month
If you haven't tried it yet, check out The Charge Scheme. It's a new "salary sacrifice" style app for charging that’s gaining traction this month. Of course, Zap-Map and Octopus Electroverse remain our "must-haves" for finding those reliable ultra-rapid hubs.
