Ever looked at jockey wheel specs and wondered what the “load rating” really means? If you get it wrong, you’re not just dealing with a nuisance—your trailer’s stability and coupling safety can take the hit, especially when you’re loading for work, livestock, or equestrian use. If you’ve got a horsebox, you already know the “minor” road issues aren’t minor at all—camera fitment, mounting stability, and wiring reliability can make the difference between a smooth haul and a stressful stop. In our latest piece we break down what actually matters on the road: clear views, proper positioning, and the usual trouble spots that lead to faults (and missed warnings) when trailers aren’t properly looked over. It’s the sort of practical, workshop-tested advice you’ll wish you’d had before the next journey—especially when you’re towing for work or competition. Get it right with dependable setup and proper servicing, because safety compliance isn’t a gamble.

Trailer bearings don’t give you much warning when they’re about to go—once you hear the rough running or notice play, you’re already past the “it’s probably fine” stage. The right replacement timing depends on factors like use, load, water ingress, and what your hitch is telling you, and it’s one of those jobs where getting it wrong can turn into expensive downtime (or worse). If you tow regularly—horseboxes, agricultural rigs, car transporters or flatbeds—this is the no-nonsense checklist you’ll want in your workshop head. Trust the people who know the branded bits and the real-world failures, not guesswork.

Trailer tyres aren’t “set and forget” — one worn edge, wrong pressure, or a hidden fault and you’re flirting with overheating, instability, and poor braking just when you least want it. Ifor Williams, Indespension, Brian James, ALKO and Maypole trailers all depend on tyres being checked the right way, because issues rarely announce themselves with a dramatic warning light. We see the same avoidable problems coming into the workshop, and the good news is they’re the sort of things a proper professional inspection can catch early. Get the safety checks that can’t wait right, and you’ll tow with confidence instead of guesswork.

Ever noticed a trailer socket that’s gone furry, crusty, or temperamental? That’s not just “surface corrosion” — it can cause flaky electrics, poor contact, and unnecessary breakdowns, so the question isn’t always repair vs replacement, it’s what’s actually worn and why. In our latest blog we break down when corrosion can be safely cleaned up and when the connector needs replacing, with real-world checks that matter for everyday users and trade fleets alike. If you tow regularly (from horseboxes to car transporters), this is the sensible guide to keeping your electrics reliable and roadworthy.

If your towbar wiring bypass relay is throwing faults, don’t just keep resetting it and hoping for the best—those symptoms usually point to a genuine electrical issue in the trailer lighting supply or relay logic. From intermittent indicators to dead brake lights, we break down what goes wrong, why it happens, and what to check so your setup stays safe and compliant (especially on rural runs and equestrian hauling). The no-nonsense bit: correct diagnosis beats guesswork, and a proper service saves you time, bulbs, and headaches. Get the real workshop reasoning behind the fault patterns before you spend money in the dark.

Horsebox trailers don’t just “get you from A to B” — they keep your animals, your kit, and your legal compliance safe. If you’re seeing uneven braking, odd lighting behaviour, or a coupling that feels less solid than it should, it’s usually not a mystery, it’s maintenance overdue and faults building under the surface. Our guide breaks down the practical checks you should be looking for (and why pro inspection matters), with the kind of workshop reality you’d expect from Towy Trailer Centre. It’s worth reading because catching small issues early stops big downtime and costly parts later.

Ever wonder when a trailer brake drum actually needs replacing, rather than just “being fine for now”? The signs are usually there—uneven braking, grinding, reduced stopping power—and ignoring them can turn a simple wear item into an expensive safety problem. In our latest workshop breakdown, we run through what “due” looks like on the most common trailer setups, so you can plan maintenance properly and keep your roadworthiness where it belongs. If you tow with any confidence at all, this is the practical check your trailer deserves.

Wheel stud patterns aren’t “close enough” on a trailer—get them wrong and you’re risking vibration, uneven wear, and a proper safety headache. The article breaks down which trailer wheel stud patterns must match for common setups and why fitment accuracy matters when you’re replacing hubs, wheels, or components on brands like Ifor Williams and AL-KO. If you’ve ever had a mystery wobble or a stubborn wheel that “won’t sit right”, this is the checklist you need before it turns into downtime. Our family workshop sees the consequences of mismatched parts every day—so it’s worth getting it right the first time.
