It is with unimaginable sadness that I share the devastating news that my dad, Ian Gore, has sadly passed away following a collision near Windy Harbour.
My dad wasnโt just the owner of this business โ he was the business. He built it with my uncle and later with me, and for over 30 years he gave everything to it. He believed in hard work, honesty, and treating people properly, and that showed in every relationship he built with customers, colleagues, and friends.
To me, he was my dad. To our family, he was a deeply loved husband, brother, uncle, and the proudest โPopsโ to his grandchildren. To so many of you, he was a familiar face, a kind soul, a helping hand, and someone who would always stop for a chat and a laugh.
The outpouring of love, messages, and support weโve received has been overwhelming and incredibly comforting at the hardest time of our lives. It means more to us than we can ever put into words.
This business will continue, and I promise it will continue with my dadโs values at its heart โ kindness, care, integrity, and community.
Thank you for your patience, your understanding, and your compassion during this devastating time.
My dad was so deeply loved, and he will be so truly missed.
You may remember us telling you about a collision near to Windy Harbour, and unfortunately, we have a very sad update to bring you.
To remind you: at 6:16pm on 17th January, we received a report of the collision on the A585.
It was reported that prior to the collision a white Peugeot Partner van had broken down and was being pushed to the side of the road by the driver and another man who had stopped to help.
Whilst it was being pushed, a blue Volkswagen Transporter taxi collided with the Partner.
The driver of the Partner, who can now be named as 62-year-old Ian Gore suffered serious injuries and sadly later died in hospital on Monday 26th January. Our thoughts remain with his loved ones at this devastating time.
The other man who stopped to help, aged in his 30s, also suffered serious injuries, and has since been discharged from hospital.
A woman in her 60s, the passenger of the Partner suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a man in his 70s was arrested on suspicion of Causing Serious Injury by Careless Driving and has since been released under investigation.
Ianโs family have today paid a heartbreaking tribute to him, and with their blessing, we have shared it with you today. They said:
โIan Gore was a deeply loved husband, father, father-in-law, brother, uncle, and proud โPops โ to his four soon to be five grandchildren. He loved and cherished his family above all else.
โHe was a well-known and respected community man in Ormskirk, always willing to lend a hand or support those around him.
โIan was also known in the Maghull area of Merseyside where along with his brother and son he had run a family business for over 30 years. Ian was highly regarded by industry colleagues and customers alike.
โHis love of music and entertaining shone through his daily life and the outpouring of tributes from people he met and whose lives he touched are beautiful and heartwarming to read.
โIan will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, cheeky smile and the positive impact he had on so many lives.
โThe family thanks the community for their kindness, support, and respect during this incredibly difficult time.โ
Itโs very clear from his familyโs tribute that Ian was a much-loved man. His family are being supported by specially-trained officers and our thoughts are with them at this upsetting time.
