Coronavirus Government Update: MOTs due from 30 March 2020
Your car, van or motorcycle’s MOT expiry date will be extended by 6 months if it’s due on or after 30 March 2020 - but you must keep your vehicle safe to drive.

If using your TVR for grocery shopping trips and the MOT has expired on or after the 30th March 2020 you now have a 6 month extension. The responsibility is on the driver to make sure your car is roadworthy and safe.

Most TVR's will have been laid up for probably the last 6 months and will need a little TLC to make sure they comply with the law. Here's a few checks we at Str8Six recommend before you venture out onto the roads.

1. Open the bonnet and do a visual check and look for rodent damage. Check the coolant and oil levels (if Speed Six the oil level can only be checked when hot).

2. Switch the ignition on and off a couple of times to prime the fuel pump twice this should cut down on cranking. Once started get your car out of the garage and let it warm up, preferably with a few revs (1250rpm is optimum). Check the heater runs warm after a few minutes (may have an airlock) and that the cooling fans operate at approx 90 degrees coolant temp.

3. Get a family member to check all your lights to make sure these are working correctly.

4. Speed Six owners can check the oil level once you have 70 degrees of oil temp not coolant temp. To do this unscrew the dipstick, switch off the engine and check within 60 seconds. If oil is added it will have to be run again briefly. Approx 1 litre of oil between min & max marks on the dipstick.

5. Visual check of tyre tread depths and approx pressures.

6. Drive carefully to the local garage and check your tyre pressures with their machine:

Griffith & Chimaera. 22psi front, 24 psi rear.
Tuscan, Tamora, T350, Cerbera & Sagaris 26 psi all round.

7. Take it easy for a few miles so you can gradually get some heat in the car and also its been sat for a while so will benefit from some gentle coaxing back into life.

You should have a report from your last service which will have a list of items that require "monitoring", please have a look at this and if there is anything that your concerned by feel free to give me a call on my mobile 07834 739307 and I can advise.

Likewise if your concerned by anything on the car or would like my advise please feel free to call.

Stay Safe & enjoy it!!

Dear friends, customers and fellow TVR fanatics.
I wanted to update you on how we’re responding to the challenges of coronavirus (COVID-19) and how we are ensuring we give you the best possible service at this difficult time.
Here at Str8six our priority, first and foremost, is to look after our staff and our TVR customers.
After careful consideration of the government announcement over the past week, we as a team have made the following decisions;

1, To remain open, we will keep to the World Health Organisations current advice, where caution is taken and people are a set distance apart our business can carry on as normal. Having said that, we will try and limit the number of customer interactions to a minimum, for our staff and customer well being. We would like you to ring us first if you wish to come and see us, so that we can arrange a suitable time (so by appointment only at the moment please). Please don’t just drop in when passing.
2, Our collection service will still be available, so we can come to you if you require your TVR picking up. (No distance restriction)
3, We will follow the health guidelines and ensure all staff choosing to work are fit and well. We are also keeping on top of hygiene with each car being wiped down with antibac after drop off and before customer collection.
4, …and we politely ask, if you are feeling unwell please stay at home and we look forward to seeing you when you are feeling better.
The most important thing for you to do is look after yourself and the people around you - knowing that we’ll still be here if you need us.

On a positive note its a perfect weekend to get out into the countryside, breath in the fresh air and enjoy some time in your TVR isolation pod.

Christmas is a distant memory, the New Year festivities are done and we’re all back at work, time to start thinking about dusting off your P&J and planning the summer ahead.

We’ve put together a webpage with various events throughout the year that we at Str8Six feel are a great excuse to get the car out of the garage and explore some A&B roads that you may not have driven before.

Hope this gives you some ideas of how to make the most of your TVR in 2020.

Sorry Now Sold!!
1993 – TVR GRIFFITH 500 – “MISSION POSSIBLE”
Str8six does not have the time or manpower to bring this car up to spec in a sensible timescale. So we are offering it as a Trade Sale on a “Spares or Repairs” basis, and with no Warranty implied or given.
As such it is a very inexpensive car - one to buy and to bring back to full operating condition!
There’s Good News and then there’s Some Not so Good News!
On the Plus side, this is an undamaged 1993 TVR Griffith 500, with all componentry present. The car is finished in an attractive colour combination – Black with a Cream interior – and the seats and carpets are in acceptable condition. The engine starts and runs, although it needs a new camshaft. The car will retain its distinctive TVR Registration Number – L4 TVR – valued at some £4000.

On the negative side, the car has been off the road for some 12 years. Unsurprisingly it now needs new Clutch and Brake Master Cylinders. The brakes are binding but the car does roll. Inspection shows the chassis is corroded and holed in the o/s outrigger.

Objectively, the car would benefit from a full body off chassis restoration. That would be a good time to address the corroded suspension components, the coil-bound front springs and the tired suspension bushes.

But this is a fully viable Griffith 500 Rebuild Project ! And it may not be relevant to your plan, but this Griff is eligible for export to Canada - AND even to the USA!!

As this vehicle does not drive and will require trailering to its new home, delivery to your preferred address up to 100 miles is inc in the price.
Viewing is by appointment please.
If you wish, please text or call 07834 739307 or 01844 352 735 to express interest. .

This TVR Tuscan V6, first registered in Dec 1969, which is a perfectly viable road-registered and road-going car which, however boasts a wonderful history as a racecar!.

This TVR's greatest achievement was to win the 1970 Modsports Championship in the hands of Dr Rod Longton, a General Practitioner. He took delivery of the car in factory built form with factory options including a lightweight and modified body, a full roll cage and Koni shock absorbers. This highly respected amateur race driver then campaigned his Tuscan V6 at the front of the field throughout the following two seasons., sponsored by the selling dealership - Lockhart Sportscars of Chithurst, Hampshire.

The Modsports Championship contenders included Le Mans Spec Austin Healey 3000s, AC Cobras and Jaguar E-Types. (Note the photo of Dr Longton in his Tuscan V6 leading Sir John Gott, Chief Constable of Northamptonshire, in his Healey 3000 Le Mans !)

Approximately 30 years ago, CLM 99H dropped a valve during a season of hillclimbing in the hands of its second owner, Jack Dilley of Hurley in Berkshire. The car was put back in its garage and the engine removed and taken apart. It then sat there forlornly (for 28yrs), before It was offered to and purchased by Mr Jason Clegg.

He spent a couple of months deciding which route to follow with the car, before deciding that a sympathetic restoration was the best way forward. The body was removed and all mechanical parts were overhauled. The body & interior were left as original as possible - with various battle scars preserved and the patina of history evident!

At the end of that process, the Specification was as follows:
Factory built Tuscan V6 Lightweight with modified body.
Original factory roll cage.
Ford 3.1 Ltr Essex V6, rebuilt with parts, help & advice from Ric Wood.
Forged pistons, gasflowed heads, balanced bottom end, alloy timing wheel, baffled sump, roller rockers, triple downdraft Weber carbs.
Ceramic coated 3 into 1 manifolds with custom side exit system.
Alloy radiator & electric fan.
Rebuilt Capri 3 ltr close ratio gearbox.
Rebuilt 3.7:1 Powerlock diff.
Intrax adjustable dampers & springs.
8" Cooper F1 wheels at the front, 10" Pearce wheels at the rear.
Period style Michelin tyres all round.

The Car’s Competition History is recorded, as follows:
Year Races 1st 2nd 3rd
1970 19 9 7 1
1971 19 4 5 8
1972 19 5 9 4
1973 12 6 2 1

The history file that came with the car was extensive, fascinating and effectively opened a window onto the world of motor racing 50, yes FIFTY, years ago
As previously mentioned, the car was duly sold 3 years ago to a genuine TVR aficionado, who also collects historic Motorbikes. As you would expect, he kept the car in tip top form, using it on the road in appropriate conditions and on suitable track days at Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit. All these outings and associated work on the car were of course recorded ….!

And because the last owner recognised the importance of collecting as much of the history of the car, and of the motorracing scene "Back in the day", he has added much extra content to the car’s very full provenance records.

The documentation available includes:
A copy of the original factory build sheet dated 28th Nov 1969.
The car’s original green logbook (showing only 2 owners!).
A notebook with race specs & settings from 1974.
A letter from TVR.
The Bill of Sale from the first owner Dr Rod Longton to the second owner.
Various receipts & invoices.
Race programmes (some with this car on the cover!).
Period photographs from various race meetings.
Various scrutineering passes (some with rodent damage!)
The car also features in various articles and TVR publications throughout the years.

This is a rare opportunity to purchase a TVR - with extensive and exceptional historic provenance - which can be used both on track and on the road..
