Carbon build up on 3.0 TDI Vw group engine
Poor starting
Rough running
Increased fuel consumption
Lack of power
Miss fire
Smoke
DPF issues
Its not a manufacturing fault, its due to emission regulations in which a diesel engine is designed not to put the soot out into the air.
It has to go somewhere!
Unfortunately for the customer thats normally a build up inside the engine.
Protec Automotive Leicester recommends an "off car" cleaning process.
While "on the car" carbon cleaning can be effective, however, no amount of additives or intake cleaner is going to clean this much dirt.
Any professional carbon clean should seek to remove the dirt from the engine not flush it further into it.
This soot, will not burn off if flushed into the engine, it has to come out somewhere and will eventually block the DPF at the other end.
Good old fashioned strip down to clean is more labour intensive but there's no substitute for this method.
