A crucial component of the intake system is the swirl flaps, which play an essential role in engine performance and emissions control. Manufacturers designed these systems not only to achieve the best possible performance but also to meet strict environmental standards.
The swirl flaps are mounted on a shaft and operated by a linkage connected to a swirl flap actuator, which is controlled by the engine management system (ECU). At lower engine speeds (up to approximately 2,500 rpm), the ECU partially closes the swirl flaps. This optimizes the air-fuel mixture by increasing the speed and swirl of the incoming air, improving its mixing with fuel. As a result, combustion becomes more efficient, leading to smoother engine operation, improved torque at lower revs, and reduced emissions of harmful pollutants, particulate matter, and nitrogen oxides (NOx).
Intake manifolds should be inspected approximately every 100,000 km. At this mileage, it is recommended to check the level of carbon buildup inside the intake manifold as well as in the intake ports of the cylinder head. The original manifold design relies on plastic components such as the swirl flaps, linkage, and bearings, which are prone to wear over time.

The original plastic parts are upgraded to stainless steel components and brass bushings, providing significantly greater durability and reliability.
