Some cars are difficult to walk past. This was one of them.

A 1982 BMW E21 transformed into this extraordinary Group 5-inspired Art Car — photographed today during the auction preview at Ascot.

Originally a BMW 318, it was comprehensively re-engineered by Kustom Kolors, with a bespoke chassis accommodating the running gear from an E39 BMW 540i — including its 4.4-litre M62 V8 and six-speed manual gearbox.

But it is that hand-painted, asymmetrical artwork that stops you in your tracks. Inspired by BMW’s legendary Group 5 racers, yet deliberately avoiding the recreation of an existing BMW racing livery, it makes an already outrageous piece of engineering completely individual.

Not subtle. Not remotely conventional. And wonderfully photogenic.

One of several fascinating cars I spent some time looking over at Ascot today.

There’s something particularly special about the 812 Competizione — technically extraordinary, visually dramatic, yet still unmistakably Ferrari.

What did this exceptional Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth make at auction?

Offered at auction in July 2026, this wasn’t simply another RS500.

Build number 468 of just 500 produced, this Diamond White example has covered only 16,702 miles from new and is regarded as one of the most original RS500s known to survive.

Believed never to have been repainted, it has also been featured as a benchmark example in Dan Williamson’s Factory Original Ford RS Cosworths.

Cars such as this are a reminder that mileage alone doesn’t define the very best collector cars.

Originality. Provenance. Condition. Rarity.

As cars become older, genuinely preserved examples inevitably become harder to find — and those characteristics can create an enormous distinction between two apparently similar cars.

Watch the bidding unfold and see where the hammer eventually falls.

Two rally-bred legends, from two very different eras.

The Subaru Impreza 22B STi and Opel Manta 400 — two fascinating homologation-inspired performance cars, each with a very different story to tell.

The 22B was created by Subaru Technica International to celebrate Subaru’s 40th anniversary and its third consecutive World Rally Championship Constructors’ title. This particular car was supplied new to the Japanese domestic market in April 1998 and is #24 of the 400 JDM examples.

Alongside it, the wonderfully rare Opel Manta 400, developed for the extraordinary Group B era — rear-wheel drive, Cosworth-developed cylinder head and unmistakably of its time.

I filmed both cars during an auction preview at Silverstone. Neither was connected with my business or being offered by me; they were simply two historically significant cars that I thought were well worth taking a closer look at.

Two very different interpretations of rally-bred performance — separated by more than a decade, but both now firmly established as important enthusiast cars.

The original brief was to source a very late, low-mileage used Porsche Macan S.

Sometimes, however, the right solution isn’t the one contained in the original brief.

Through my network, connections and reputation within the industry, I was able to secure an early build slot for a brand-new Macan S — presenting my client with a rather different opportunity.

Instead of compromising on somebody else’s specification, we could create exactly the right car from the outset.

I advised throughout the specification and ordering process — carefully selecting the options and details that would make the car work beautifully as a whole.

And this was the end result.

A fabulous Porsche Macan S finished in Gentian Blue with contrasting Pebble Grey leather, and a specification carefully considered around my client’s requirements.

For me, this is a good example of what professional car sourcing should be.

The brief may begin with finding a particular car. My role is to look beyond the obvious, consider the opportunities available and advise my client on the best route to the right outcome.

Car buying as it should be.

There are special competition cars — and then there are cars with genuine motorsport history.

This is C870 EUD, one of just nine Works MG Metro 6R4s, built to the ultimate International Tarmac Specification for the 1986 World Rally Championship.

Chassis #207 made its WRC debut on the 1986 Monte Carlo Rally, driven by the late Tony Pond, before competing on the Rally de Portugal with Marc Duez.

Powered by the naturally aspirated V6 in full International Specification, producing around 410bhp, it comes from one of the most extraordinary — and ultimately short-lived — periods in rallying history.

Remarkably, C870 EUD has remained in full period specification throughout its life, retaining the provenance and authenticity that make genuine Works Group B machinery so significant today.

A fabulous piece of British motorsport history.

And surely one of the most distinctive sounds ever heard on a rally stage.

Another successful client acquisition — Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic.

This fabulous Firenze Red Range Rover recently joined a client’s collection following an assignment that began with some initial consultancy and developed into full client representation.

Finding the right car was only part of the process.

The assignment involved understanding the market, assessing the strongest available candidates, carrying out due diligence, establishing the right value and specification, negotiating on my client’s behalf and managing the finer details of the transaction through to a successful conclusion.

Throughout the process, deciding not to proceed with a particular car remained every bit as valid as deciding to buy one. My responsibility wasn’t simply to help my client buy a Range Rover; it was to provide the independent advice and clarity needed to determine whether this was the right Range Rover, at the right value, for him.

Ultimately, it was.

A very special 5.0-litre supercharged V8 Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic — and, most importantly, a client delighted with his new car.

A rather special 24 seconds from the archives…

Filmed during my preview day at Ascot Racecourse in September 2025, this Lamborghini Aventador SV was always going to command attention.

One of just 600 Aventador SV Coupés produced, its naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 develops 750hp — but sometimes the numbers are almost secondary. Specified in Giallo with Nero comfort seats and Giallo accents, the colour, shape and sheer presence of an Aventador SV still make it feel like a genuine event.

And sharing the atrium with a Gulf Blue Porsche 911 Turbo S certainly didn’t hurt the view either…

Sometimes a colour just stops you in your tracks.

This one certainly did.

Not because it was expensive, but because I think it completely transforms the character of the Defender.

It’s often the smaller decisions that make the biggest difference, and in this case a £895 paint option does exactly that.

A reminder that good specification isn’t always about spending the most money. Sometimes it’s simply about choosing well.
