From the Workshop 🔧

This Jaguar I-Pace stopped charging completely, all down to a broken wire in the charging interlock circuit. It couldn't complete its preliminary checks, which drained the 12V starter battery and left the car immobile.

Current guidance means the wiring loom must be replaced, not repaired, so we removed the front subframe and drive motor just to reach it. Not a job for the faint hearted, but exactly the kind of EV repair our team tackles every week.

🚨 Warning Light of the Month 🚨

Introducing a new series where we break down the dashboard lights you need to know! Starting with one you should never ignore: the coolant temperature / overheating warning light. 🌡️

Usually shown as a thermometer (often red), this light means your engine is running too hot. Continuing to drive can cause serious, and expensive engine damage.

What to do if it comes on:

1️⃣ Find a safe place to pull over as soon as you can

2️⃣ Switch off the engine and let it cool dow

3️⃣ Do NOT open the coolant/expansion cap while the engine is hot — hot coolant can cause serious burns

4️⃣ Once cool, check your coolant level (top up if low)

5️⃣ If the light stays on or the level keeps dropping, don't risk it, get it checked

Overheating is often down to low coolant, a leak, a faulty thermostat or a failing water pump — all things we can diagnose and sort.

Lots of short journeys? Your DPF might not thank you.

Your Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) traps soot from the exhaust, but to clear itself it needs to get hot enough to burn that soot off, a process called regeneration. That usually takes a good, steady run at higher speeds (think motorway), not just short trips to the shops.

Mostly short, stop-start journeys? That soot can build up and block the filter, leading to warning lights, reduced performance and costly repairs..
