Just a warning to anyone selling a vehicle online. Please be aware of scammers, we’ve had three cars in this year all with similar issues. People are viewing the cars advertised and distracting the owner whilst the other chap puts used oil into the cooling system, this creating the elusion of a fault with the engine. They have also been removing plugs from injectors & high pressure fuelling system to create a misfire on road test, this bringing up multiple warning lights on the dashboard !! Not only that but pouring used engine oil over the exhaust/turbo to create smoke whilst on road test with the owner making them believe the engine has serious mechanical failure.
After the road test the potential buyer is then offering to buy the car with the so called faults for a fraction of the asking price.
Please don’t be fooled by this, if you suspect something isn’t right, just refuse the low price offer, have a trustworthy mechanic look at the issues.
Luckily this customer decided to get it checked first, we talked about what happened and I assured him it was a scam.
Be vigilant folks and be careful who is viewing your car, if its a group of people think twice before opening the door and simply don’t leave them with your car whilst you make a cuppa or grab the paper work!! I also suggest only viewing during the day so its lighter.
Be vigilant folks and take care some right scammers about.
