A kind request to motorists for the safety of me and every other recovery driver! When you see this sight on the hard shoulder of a dual carriageway or motorway and you’re flying along at 70 / 80 mph the first thing to do is look in your mirrors and see what’s around you now if you’re all alone on the road please please please move over to the outside lane, you don’t even need to indicate as you already know you’re the only one there right!? But dear god don’t just sit on the inside lane flying past 3 / 4 foot away from us as anything could go wrong, winch cable snap, i trip and fall off the side of the truck loading it or even just stood at the side trying to strap the vehicle on hoping my ass is still attached after you’ve flown past with 0 care given for anyones safety! Luckily trained recovery drivers are taught in such dangerous locations to stop, turn and eyeball the driver of the vehicle coming towards them so they know they have been seen but some haven’t had this training plus it adds so much time to stop and look at every driver that isn’t moving over giving safe distance for anyone working at the side of the road regardless to how many bright lights are flashing away warning them that someone is there working! Please think, it’s a glance in the mirror and the slightest turn or the steering wheel and everyone can make it home safe!
