Well that’s the end of an era. Single Malt is sold to a private couple who I am in no doubt will use the girl to her full with their plans for exciting travels.
Anyone who has sailed on her or with me will have their own memories of adventures had, close calls, wildlife spectaculars and special anchorages to mention but a few of the experiences Single Malt has allowed us to enjoy together since 2017.
Sail Orkney will now bow out with many new really good friends having been forged along the journey.

I am resuming my freelance skippering and informal coaching on other boats and working on my other private boats just now and look to do the odd delivery occasionally as well, so not bowing out of sailing at all!!! Please let that be known.

I am viewing this very much as a new phase of outdoor activity with a bit more time however to concentrate on sailing, cycling, hills etc. Anyone wishing to hook up for adventures on or off the water, please feel free to encourage me and join me in new adventures!

As one of my best pals and I repeat frequently…..”The best is yet to come!!”

Regards, Mike.

Last charter of the season sadly and Sail Orkney ceasing trading. Really disappointed that the name will not continue. No takers sadly.
Single Malt being put on the market with much regret. Many a happy and epic times on board with pals over the years. Thank you to one and all.

Another busy charter season and now down on the West Coast. Final leg and enjoying the bustle of North Pier pontoons in Oban where I will welcome my next set of clients.
Also looking forward to having a few of my long standing sailing friends on board with me in the coming weeks too to celebrate my last commercial season with Sail Orkney.
Mike.

Well…. That’s the sun gone down on Sail Orkney’s business venture up north. Sad to see Single Malt moved to the west coast for the last time before ceasing trading at the end of August. It has been a great experience in Orkney. I have been touched by the good wishes and sentimental memories shared by local people over the last few weeks in Kirkwall. It seems most of the marina folk have sailed on her at one point, several across to Norway….
I will return to Orkney with my private boat next year and spend some time cruising the islands without time constraints or deadlines and I honestly cannot wait!
Thank you to all of my Orkney friends for their support over the past 6 years.

Another very successful charter, skippered this time. Boat has been to many places it hasn’t been recently before.
Sail Orkney is now for sale unfortunately.
With or without the boat, I am desperate to get the name, for any relative business kept in Orkney, and it certainly does not have to be charters. Advertised in the Orcadian this week. See what you think.

Great to finally be back in Orkney. Looking forward to the charter season kicking off in Kirkwall next week.

Special Offer!
Short Notice Repositioning Trip
Oban -Kirkwall. 16th - 30th April.
(Flexible start date)

Owing to a short notice cancellation, Sail Orkney is looking to re-charter a repositioning trip from Oban on the west coast to Kirkwall in Orkney. This will be a fantastic 2 week trip, route of your choosing through several of the Scottish sailing regions and at a really attractive cost of £2900 plus refundable deposit. This rate is barely above the one week charter rate at this time of the year.

The successful candidate should be qualified as per normal charter conditions but also competent to plan and deal with strong tidal areas and tidal gates, especially at the Orkney landfall. Single Malt will accommodate 4 - 8 crew comfortably.

If you are looking for a short notice trip at a fantastic rate and are also looking for a challenge, please get in touch with Mike at Sail Orkney for more details.

Well, winter maintenance underway at Ardrossan and already looking forward to next season and returning to Orkney. Usual rolling programme of seacocks, rope clutches and rigging replacements to keep Single Malt in tip top condition for my loyal customers.
After a lost season and then a very late start to this season it was great to get her back on the water doing what she loves doing.

Between charters…… stole a quick long day on Rum with my son Murray. Stunning weather, spectacular views and sore legs but a traverse of Hallival and Askival, down to Dibidil bothy and round the coast. Single Malt enjoying being used!
