🔧🚘 Service update 🚘🔧

Since opening the business back in 2024 I have heavily invested in various dealer-level diagnostics to provide a wide range of services to Orkney.

🔑 Vehicle key replacement 🔑

◼️ Supply of aftermarket, OEM or genuine manufacturer keys - from standard non-remote, remote keys and proximity keys.
◼️ On site laser key cutting of blades
◼️ Programming of keys including remote locking
◼️ Key cloning (vehicle specific)
◼️ All keys lost situations

Getting a replacement second key when you already have one is a much simpler process along with saving yourself money. When all keys are lost, this usually involves picking the lock, key blade decoding and on some occasions, opening up of modules to retrieve and back up data. This unfortunately comes with a higher cost due to the work and time involved in the repair.

Due to there only being one dealership in Orkney, other manufacturer diagnostics are very limited. On-site at JT Motors between our various manufacturers diagnostics and dealer tools, I can provide essential coverage for this. This saves you from having to arrange recovery of vehicles to mainland dealerships avoiding an expensive repair and travel bill.

JT Motors Orkney will be closed from Thursday the 20th of August and will reopen on Wednesday the 2nd of September.

Emails, calls and messages will not be monitored during this time.

The next available bookings in the diary for MOT's and repair work is from October onwards.

🔑 Supply, cut and coding for vehicle key replacement. 🔑

Over the past little while I have carried out

▪️ Volkswagen Golf 2015 (Smart key) - Supplied , cut the emergency blade and coded to vehicle.

▪️Toyota Hilux 2022 (Smart key) - All keys on this vehicle was lost which involved steering lock been stuck on etc. With specialist equipment I was able to temporary start the vehicle and get it started recovering to workshop which involved then replacing the immobilser module, Supplied two genuine keys with cutting blades to vehicle VIN number and coded to vehicle.

▪️Audi RS4 2007 - Supplied, cut and coded to vehicle.

▪️Volkswagen Caddy 2015 - Customer contacted me this morning and with a replacement key in stock I had a new one supplied, cut and coded to the vehicle by late afternoon.

Key coding these days has become more tricky due to vehicle theft and manufacturers making things more difficult to access. In the past recent months I now have a variety of professional key coding and diagnostic equipment which allows me to expand my services in this side of things.

⚠️ A little advice is that it's a lot simpler for myself and also cheaper for a customer to have a spare rather than running the risk of misplacing all keys which turns into a nightmare of the possibility of changing ignition lock barrels, door lock barrels and immobilser modules if unsuccessful resets. It also involves more in depth coding to the vehicle.

⚠️ Advice to all customers ⚠️

The current demand for MOT testing and mechanical repairs is at an extremely challenging point for us all in Orkney.

Waiting times is currently the biggest issue at the moment. The feedback gathered from customers, discussions with other businesses and mechanics is that the majority of our diaries are booked up in advance when a vehicle comes in for an MOT test and requires small repairs we may manage to repair it within the 10 working day re-test timeframe. This usually involves us working overtime or weekends to carry out the MOT repairs and sometimes the lack of appriecation on doing this is forgotten about. On the other hand if it requires extensive repairs it is just not possible for us to have it fixed within the 10 working days timeframe.

Unfortunately with the recent closure of J & W Taits and Halfords a few years ago this has added to the workload for us all again.

FOR EXAMPLE

The previous garages that are now closed carried out an average of 5 MOT tests per day.

That works out to be 10 a day between them, 50 a normal working week and 2600 a year.

With around 14 MOT testing stations in Orkney that averages out to be an extra 185 tests per year and 3-4 per week for each garage.

I understand staff members from these garages will have relocated to other operating garages but there is also fewer members in this trade due to a variety of reasons with some coming off the tools or moving to another industry.

My advice for customers is to try and keep on top of checking your tyres, lights, inspecting and servicing your vehicles which will increase the probability of your vehicle passing it's MOT at time of test to avoid disappointment and being without a vehicle.

Myself and I'm sure other garage businesses will agree that we are all trying our best to accommodate our own and new customers keeping your vehicles on the road.

I hope the above puts it into perspecive of what we are dealing with at the moment and appreciate if you understand.

🔧 JT Motors Orkney will be officially open from Monday the 6th of January🔧

🔹Over the past months there has been a variety of improvements and alterations to allow for the installation of new equipment.

🔹 The nature of work being carried out will include MOT Testing, servicing, tyres, diagnostic including a wide range of dealership programming/coding and also key replacement/coding.

🔹A few things to note below

⚠️ Unfortunately the premises isn't suitable for Large/lengthy vans and larger 4x4/pickup trucks.

⚠️ I would like everybody to understand that I am here to help and accommodate customers as much as possible. Due to the availability of my time walk in bookings and queries will be kept to a minimum timeframe as I do have other customer work to carry out at a chargeable rate.

🔹 I would like to say a big thanks to everybody who has helped along the way to get to this stage and I look forward to the challenges ahead.
