Another recent job in the garage — this Audi A3 was in for a radiator and coolant system repair.

Your radiator plays a vital role in keeping your engine at the correct temperature. A leak or fault within the cooling system can lead to coolant loss and overheating, potentially causing much more serious engine damage if left unresolved.🌡️⚠️

Keep an eye out for low coolant warnings, leaks underneath your car, rising engine temperature or regularly needing to top up your coolant.

If something doesn’t look right, get it checked before a small cooling-system issue becomes a much bigger repair.

𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗔𝗜𝗥 — 𝗪𝗘𝗧 𝗕𝗘𝗟𝗧 𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧🧰👨‍🔧

A recent job in the garage was this Peugeot 208 GT Line, in for a wet belt replacement and some important preventative work.

The job included:

♦️ New wet belt kit
♦️ Oil pan and oil pump cleaned
♦️ Fresh engine oil & new filter
♦️ New rocker cover gasket

Wet belts run inside the engine oil and, over time, can deteriorate. If belt material begins to break down, it can contaminate the oil system and potentially restrict oil flow — which is why catching problems early is so important.

The good news is — Seb’s Auto Repair can now carry out repairs and replacements on certain wet belt systems! 🙌

🚧 Support Thornton's Local Businesses During Main Street Railway Bridge Closure 🚧

From 19th October, Thornton Main Street will close at the railway bridge (Kirkcaldy end) for around five months while the bridge is replaced as part of the Fife Electrification Project.

The closure will have a significant impact on many of our local businesses. Shops, cafés, takeaways, hairdressers, and other services that depend on passing trade through the Main Street are likely to see a substantial drop in customer numbers during the works.

Now more than ever, it's important that we support the businesses that are at the heart of our community. Rather than travelling elsewhere, please consider shopping locally, using local services, and recommending Thornton businesses to friends and family. 𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗛 𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥!👀

One issue we regularly come across on BMWs, particularly the 4 Series, is the coolant reservoir/return pipe becoming brittle from repeated heat cycles and eventually snapping at the joints.

When this happens, coolant can escape and potentially cause the engine to overheat if it isn’t caught quickly.🌡️⚠️

Keep an eye out for coolant leaks, low coolant warnings or rising engine temperatures. If you notice any of these signs, get it checked rather than continuing to drive - catching a cooling-system problem early can help prevent much more expensive engine damage.

Another reason why those little warning signs should never be ignored!

What you’re looking at is part of the EGR system, heavily clogged with carbon and soot build-up. As you can see, the passages have become severely restricted.

The EGR system helps control emissions, but over time carbon deposits can build up and cause problems including:

⚠️ Loss of power
⚠️ Poor acceleration
⚠️ Rough running
⚠️ Increased fuel consumption
⚠️ Engine warning lights

Depending on the condition, the affected components may need to be properly cleaned or replaced to restore airflow and get the system working correctly again.
