Been a while since I've posted, as I've been busy converting my 2011 Peugeot Boxer Panel van into a four-berth campervan for the summer. As normal for a vehicle of this age, it required some welding, so I replaced all the sills more for cosmetic reasons, Apart from the o/s front and the middle sections, which failed during the MOT. When these were removed, a section of the inner sill was showing rust too. This was cut-out, fresh steel welded in, fully treated, and wax oiled. New galvanized front, middle and rear sills panels were replaced, Primed, ripple coated and painted in OEM colour, and lacquered for added protection.

Welding can be carried out but I would need to assess the work first before committing to the work.

Customer with a 2009 Mk 7 Ford Transit 2.2 diesel with some historic engine fault codes was PTO, EGR and glow plug circuit. Started on the Power take-off, which required a software update to clear code. Code P037D indicates a fault or open circuit in the glow plug relay, with the glow plugs buried in the engine’s heart. The engine was stripped down to gain access; once most of the top end was removed, the fault was clear to see, and the positive terminal had rusted and broke away from the main wire bridge leading to the glow plugs. Removed the inlet manifold and removed, tested and replaced all glow plugs, ordered and replaced the wiring bridge and rebuilt the engine, code and history cleared; The following code was showing P0404 which indicates a fault with the engine gas recirculating valve, connected scanner to function tested unit, unit timed out showing valve was inoperative, removed and replaced EGR, found valve so corroded that it was leaking from flanged section, this would cause higher than average emission and in turn, increased fuel costs. Due to the vehicle’s age and general condition, a full service was recommended and carried out. An electrical health check was conducted, and the vehicle was returned to the customer.

Customer with a 2004 Nissan 350Z with overheating problems and front braking issues, With the vehicles age it was very unlikely it would produce any fault codes so had to carry out function tests to determine fault. This was done using the scan tool but it can also be carried out without by following some easy steps, message for details. It was clear that both cooling fans were very laboured and not functioning correctly, Placed order for complete fan assembly on next day delivery. Once arrived replaced and tested, Checked cooling system, recording thermostat opening temperature and ensuring the system is bled correctly which is never an easy task on these types of vehicles. stripped and inspected front brakes, found pads seized in the carries, replaced cleaned, greased and tested. Vehicle road tested and returned to customer.

Carried out MOT repairs to a 2005 1.4 petrol VW Polo. Not much required but work completed two thirds cheaper than the price quoted from the garage.

Brake imbalance from rear brakes plus handbrake seized, leaking exhaust at CAT section and both rear springs have broken.

Replaced brake shoes and cleaned drums and backing plate. Found leaking wheel cylinder, reassembled, adjusted and bled brakes. Replaced both rear springs, removed leaking exhaust section cut and replaced leaking flexible section to saving over £200 on replacing the CAT. Refitting exhaust with all new gaskets and clamps.

And finally ran a full diagnostic health check clearing history, vehicle retested and passed.

Vauxhall Zafira SRI 2007 1.9 cdti 148bhp with 88k with EGR and swirl flap fault, Start by manipulating the EGR valve actuator with the scan tool and it shows it’s working correctly, removed the EGR valve just to check due to such low miles for the vehicles age. Found what I expected EGR port completely blocked with carbon build up. This will be a result of the low miles and short running times over the years. With the vehicles age and it’s value work was carried out on a tight budget, EGR and inlet manifold removed and thoroughly cleaned, swirl flaps freed off and actuator bench tested, found to be serviceable. New timing belt and tensioner fitted as the belt was starting to show significant wear and no record of when it was last replaced. Engine bay rebuilt and all engine codes and history cleared. Tested vehicle parameters in real time with the scan tool during road test and is now functioning normally except now with a lot more boost.

Customer complaining of a non responsive acceleration and eccessive exhaust smoke from their 2012 Vauxhall astra 2.0 Cdti. On further inspection found large amounts of data history on DPF regen fails, and limp mode activations, and numerous fault code. One in particular was interesting P0520 (oil pressure circuit out of range) connected to real time monitoring and found oil pressure switch ok but oil viscosity too high. Checked service history and vehicle has not been serviced in over 140k miles. Before continuing any more diagnosis, consulted with owner and advised full service and engine flush. Once completed continued diagnosis by clearing codes and found two glow plugs inoperative which explained the bad starting. To finish carried out a forced regeneration to the DPF and rechecked differential pressure was in range and reset service indicator. Customer advised an additional oil and filter change in 1000 mile.
