π¨π¨ What to do after an accident? π¨π¨
Itβs very easy to forget the basics in the moments after youβve been involved in an accident but weβve condensed the information into a basic guide to make sure you are in the best position to do the right thing.
Weβve listed the things to do immediately after an accident.
Switch off the bike, switch on your hazard lights (if fitted) and check yourself over for any injuries. If you feel no pain then get yourself to a safe place to the side of the road as quickly as possible. If you have a sore neck, head or back then itβs advised you do not move or try to remove your crash helmet.
Stay calm. If anyone has injuries, call for an ambulance and the police.
If there are no injuries to anyone involved, you do not need to contact the police. You will need to swap details with the other party. This should include their name, address, a phone number, the name of their insurance company and make sure you note the details of their vehicle with the colour, make, model and number plate details too.
Ideally you need the names and addresses of passengers or witnesses to the accident too. Taking photos of the accident scene, damage to the vehicles involved and taking note of the location is also advised as itβs easy to forget the details.
Do not apologise or admit any blame as this may be taken as admitting liability at a later date.
Call the police if the other party leaves the scene without leaving their details. Also, if you suspect they have no insurance or have been drinking or are under the influence of drugs, call the police to deal with it.
If youβve been involved in a non-fault accident then McAMS can potentially help you out. Call us on 0345 054 1000 and our experienced call centre staff can explain the benefits of using McAMS rather than making a claim through your insurance company.
